Description
The University of Reading has been at the forefront of UK Higher Education for nearly a Century. We are a global university that enjoys a world-class reputation for teaching, research and enterprise.

Key to the University's success is its estate portfolio - the campuses in Reading and Henley have regularly been voted the best university green space in the UK serving over 19,000 students and nearly 4,000 staff.

We are ambitious and forward thinking, working collaboratively with our stakeholders and framework partners. We strive to create a stronger, better University of Reading, building on our past to create an exceptional future.

We are looking for a team player with leadership qualities to champion our capital project 5 year Estates Strategy programme.

As part of the Estates team, the Project Department manages the refurbishment of existing buildings and the construction of new.

Projects currently being managed range from minor works to major capital projects.

An example of which are:

Refurbishment of Chemistry laboratories, Internal space move projects, variety of government-funded carbon reduction projects, creation of a new Clinical Suite - circa £2m investment to modernise and create a teaching and training facility for University and NHS use.

In preparation for development of the European Centre for Mid-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) headquarters we will be clearing the site.

This includes several staff decants, building demolition, site clearance, rerouting of infrastructure services, replacement parking and the relocation of the School of Art

The School of Art relocation includes refurbishment and construction of an extension to existing buildings and staff moves.

Reporting to the Projects Director, the Project Lead will have the capability of delivering a full range of capital, maintenance and departmental funded projects to specification, cost, quality and time expectations across the University's estate portfolio.

Projects will include new build, refurbishment and maintenance schemes to a diverse range of property types including research facilities, teaching facilities, listed buildings, social and recreational space, commercial space, and public realm areas ranging from less than £500k to up to circa £5m in value.

The Project Lead will be responsible for managing a portfolio of projects including the supervision of consultant project managers and design teams for the larger projects.
