What you need to know about the role

Our Raw Materials Procurement function has responsibility is responsible for delivering all bulk raw materials into Immingham Bulk Terminal (IBT) - this includes iron ore and carbon fuels.

The supply chain enables the business operations to run at a cost base that provides the best value whilst ensuring security of supply and flexibility.


This important role will see you coordinating the arrival of raw materials at the right time at Immingham Bulk Terminal in line with min re-order levels to operate at lowest stock while minimising demurrage at IBT.

In your role as Planning & Scheduling Lead you will;

  • Order raw material from suppliers, agree and confirm laycans with suppliers negotiate improvements/changes to laycan and vessel positions with raw material suppliers.
  • Manage the system for reviewing forward requirements and vessel laycans.
  • Lead the weekly laycan control meeting
  • Vetting of vessel nominations from IBT/Suppliers.
  • Make relevant supply chain data visible to support achievement of stock/demurrage targets.
  • Review freight invoices and laytime calculation received from owners and shippers
  • Customs clearance of raw materials.
  • Proactively react to supply chain disruptions as they arise and provide solutions.


Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders to drive maximum effectiveness and efficiency of processes and deliverables is key to the success of this role.

You will work closely with suppliers, Inbound Shipping Manager, Senior Category Managers, IBT Manager and relevant stakeholders to ensure continuity of raw material supply and the lowest possible cost base for British Steel.


What we need to know about you

We are looking for someone who has experience within logistics and/or supply chain management, ideally from within the dry bulk shipping industry or has a background in raw materials.


You need to be confident with a proactive attitude and proven aptitude for problem solving in a fast paced environment.

The ability to influence senior stakeholders and to manage and balance commercial priorities within operational requirements.

You should be proactive in your approach and able to communicate clearly and precisely with stakeholders at all levels, the ability to speak Mandarin and experience within dry bulk shipping is preferred but not essential.

It is essential that you possess strong negotiation and organisational skills in order to succeed in this role.
