Job Summary


This is a replacement post for a Clinical Fellow in CMR (whole-time) based at Royal Brompton site of the Trust.

The post holder will be responsible for delivery of high-quality clinical care for patients being seen through the CMR Unit.

Main responsibilities


1 To assist in the running of the clinical CMR service under the direction of the Director, including being fully trained in CMR safety and the delivery of a safe NHS service, and being present at CMR scans.

2 Preparing preliminary reports on patient scans for consultant approval

3 To maintain a high standard of patient care at all times.

4 To liaise with the Chief Technologist in CMR with regard to clinical service issues.


5 To liaise with the physics and clinical staff to ensure the safe operation of all imaging equipment in the CMR Unit.

6 To ensure appropriate infection control measures are utilised when necessary. Paying particular attention to personal protection as well as the management of equipment and linens.


7 To observe safety regulations with regard to the Local Rules for CMR and the Health and Safety at Work Act.


8 If necessary, to remove property from a patient, for example to take any metal object or jewellery off for a CMR scan and ensure the patient's property is looked after and returned to them at the completion of the procedure.

9 To clear up after spills in accordance with the Trust's infection control policy.

10 The post holder will attend the clinical departmental meetings.

11 Other duties in the CMR unit will be under the guidance of the Director.


In respect of the contract, the post holder will be professionally accountable to the site-based Divisional Director, Heart Division Royal Brompton Hospital or Hospital lead in CMR.

The post holder will have professional responsibility to the Medical Director.

People Management

1 To communicate appropriately with other members of staff, giving support and advice where necessary.

2 To train technologists and visiting doctors in the use of MR scanning equipment, and CMR scanning techniques.

3 To welcome and assist visitors to the CMR unit.
