This post is for a full time Substantive Consultant Ophthalmologist with special interest in paediatric ophthalmology.

The post holder will work alongside the current ophthalmology departmental clinical lead Miss Charlotte Funnell and the current lead for paediatric ophthalmology Miss Jane Leitch.


The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and medical management of patients in the paediatric ophthalmology clinics and the acute management of the full range of ophthalmic presentations to the acute eye service.

They will be jointly responsible for retinopathy of prematurity screening with Miss Jane Leitch.

There will be the option to undertake adult neuro-ophthalmology and strabismus clinics and undertake regular paediatric ophthalmology surgery and regular adult cataract and strabismus surgery lists.


The Ophthalmology Department at Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust has a well established and highly performing team treating a broad range of Ophthalmology conditions.

The successful applicant will join a team of Consultants, Associate Specialist, Specialty Doctors, Matron, Head of Optometry, Department Manager and the nursing and orthoptic teams to complement, strengthen and help further develop the service.

This is a full time post.


The post holder will be on the SWL regional ophthalmic out of hours consultant on call rota, arranged through Moorfields at St Georges.

The appointee will possess full GMC registration at the time of interview.


The Trust offers an extensive range of services, including cancer, pathology, surgery, and gynaecology to 500,000 people in south west London and north east Surrey.

We operate two busy general hospitals, Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital, and run services from other locations, including Sutton Hospital.

St Helier Hospital is home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, while Epsom Hospital is home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).
