What you will be doing


The Estimating Support Officer role is classed as a professional role and, working under supervision, will be a member of BAE Systems Land UK Commercial & Estimating team, delivering estimating services to meet operational needs.

These estimating services will typically include but not be limited to supporting:

  • Business Winning activities.
  • Request for Bid Approval and Submission, Contract Agreement and Award activities.
  • Contract execution phases.
  • Contract Closure phases.
  • Opportunity Identification and Exploitation.


As an Estimating Support Officer you will work within a clearly defined framework with a focus on gaining experience and understanding of the estimating role and providing administrative support to operations.


The role is an intermediate support role and as an Estimating Support Officer you will have a working knowledge of a range of estimating processes and procedures through job related training, coaching and work experience.

Main responsibilities and duties could include but not be limited to:

  • Creation and compilation of typically low complexity cost estimates for bids and projects in line with business and estimating processes.
  • Compilation of accurate and timely material estimates via supply chain interaction and the use of historic information.
  • Compilation of accurate and timely labour estimates using experience, knowledge, historic data and via interaction with key stakeholders.
  • Review inputs and ensure these are in line with the scope of work.
  • Challenge functional estimate inputs as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain relationships, liaise and interact with key project related stakeholders.
  • Support the generation and analysis of uncertainty, risk and opportunity as required.
  • Produce and maintain a suitable, properly documented, Basis of Estimate for all estimates, including dependencies, assumptions, risk, exclusions and opportunities.
  • Ensure delivery of estimates is in accordance with the requirements of the E2E estimating Process, LCM 09/02 (corporate) and the appropriate estimating policies and processes.
  • Complete the entry of estimate data into a cost model as required.
  • Provide frequent feedback to direct supervision, the bid team and/or other key stakeholders with support or under supervision as required.
  • Provide data and information, as required, for internal reviews, meeting and in support of to cost investigation and negotiations.
  • Understands how assigned duties relate to others in the integrated project team and or function.
