Do you have experience of working with young people and want to find a fulfilling and meaningful way to make a positive impact on their lives?


The YMCA Robin Hood group provides temporary supported accommodation for young people, refugees, unaccompanied asylum seekers, children leaving care and vulnerable adults across Mansfield.


We are looking for Youth Support Worker to provide an effective intensive housing management and tenancy sustainment service for the Looked After Children, Care Leavers and other young adults aged 16 to 25, who are referred to us but equipping them with all the help and support they need to move towards independent living.


Your day to day role will include:

  • Create a positive, nurturing and trusted environment for young people, always displaying unconditional positive regard, whilst maintaining boundaries with calm and consistent professional practice.
  • Being responsible and offering support for the Young People who have complex needs.
  • Acting as a positive role model for them to model their behavior and work closely with them to build trust and respect.
  • Working collaboratively with other agencies and professionals including social workers, personal advisors, housing providers, health professionals, IDVAs, drug and alcohol treatment workers, criminal justice practitioners (YOT, police and NCA) to deliver wraparound support intended to maximise the life chances of the young people entering the service.
  • Monitoring and reviewing the progress of residents within all the accommodation using the bespoke software and reporting tools.

About You:


This is an intense and demanding role which requires extensive experience of supporting young people with multiple and complex needs.

You will ideally have experience of working in a Supported Housing Project and have experience working within a move on accommodation project with vulnerable / challenging adults and / or young people.

You will need to be resilient and have a strength of character to deal with challenging behavior presented by our residents; you will have an overwhelming desire to make a difference and expect the unexpected every single day


You will be passionate about supporting people and share our belief that everyone should have a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become.


Your communication skills will be your greatest strength and you will have experience of dealing with difficult situations, and challenging people and handling conflict appropriately.


From your background, you will have high level working knowledge of Housing Benefit, Personal Budgets and the welfare and benefits system as well as good understanding of the needs of homeless complex people and the services available to them.
