Calling all Registered Nurses with extended skills in the field of Primary Care, Emergency/Acute Medicine or Prison Health Care.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join the Healthcare leadership team in HMP Cardiff, working in a fast paced, varied but always rewarding environment.


HMP Cardiff is the largest Category B prison in Wales, holding up to 800 adults on a remand basis or serving a sentence of less than 2 years.

We have a high turnover over individuals from variety of social circumstances and backgrounds and we are the only prison in Wales which includes a 20 inpatient unit, caring for those with a wide range of physical and psychological health needs.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.


Working as part of a well-established multi-disciplinary team, the applicant will fulfil a key operational role, supporting the Senior Nurse and Head of Healthcare in delivering safe and efficient care to those with health needs within the prison.

Working to the UHBs core values and behaviours, the MDT in HMP Cardiff provides holistic, patient centred care to those in custody.

We offer a diverse primary care service with access to immediate and effective healthcare for both emergency and routine concerns, whilst facilitating referrals and transfers to secondary care where required.


As a band 7 clinical lead you will be required to support the line management of the nursing team, providing professional leadership, advice and support.

Clinical practice will include conducting clinical patient assessments and triage in both emergency and non-emergency situations and undertaking chronic disease reviews and implementing management plans as part of a new initiative to reinstate nurse-led clinics.

The post holder will need to demonstrate skills and experience in problem solving, resilience, team leadership and effective communication, whilst beholding the clinical competence and advanced nursing skills to practice autonomously.

There will be opportunities for training and development to support further development of clinical and leadership skills.
