Great opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter to join an established Renewals and Mid Term Adjustments (MTA) team based in Ipswich.


As an Assistant Underwriter you will be involved in assisting the team with the underwriting and production of SME commercial property renewals in a timely manner and within the Company's underwriting guidelines, ensuring underwriting and technical compliance.


Duties of Assistant Underwriter

  • To assist in underwriting the existing book of SME UK commercial property risks
  • To review specific renewals, working within the Company's underwriting and technical guidelines, issued by Branch
  • Ability to review and extract the necessary information from various reports in relation to the risk
  • Prepare renewal documentation and issue terms to the relevant broker
  • Review claims histories for policies
  • Assist with accounts queries
  • Maintain full and accurate policy records
  • Develop and maintain broker relationships
  • Work as a member of the team, to meet the necessary deadlines

Key Competencies/Skills, Experience and Qualifications:


  • A basic understanding of the UK Commercial property insurance market advantageous
  • Willingness to understand the compliance required for the role
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • IT literate: good working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of packages and the ability to proficiently learn new software
  • Good and confident communication skills at all levels written and verbal
  • Ability to build good working relationships and work as part of a team and to maximise input and contribution
  • Good time management and organisation skills
  • Willingness to progress towards a CII qualification
  • GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English, grades A-C or 95
