Headquartered in Elstree, Herts, BPL part of Kedrion, are an organisation where our products change people's lives, and the purpose of our work is lived and breathed through its people.

Bio Products Laboratory manufactures pharmaceutical products derived from human blood plasma.

These products are used to treat patients for conditions such as immunodeficiencies, coagulation disorders and critical care (blood volume deficiency).


We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety Advisor to join our Health, Safety & Environment team located in Elstree, Herts.


Please note our site is not easily accessible by public transport so please take this into consideration when applying.

The main purpose of your job role will be;

  • To provide day to day Health, Safety and Environmental advice and support to the BPL HS&E Department.
  • Responsible for promoting and ensuring safety in the workplace.
  • Working within the various departments on site including manufacturing, engineering, and laboratories to promote HS&E best practice.

Your Key Duties and Responsibilities will be;
Legal and Compliance

  • Keeping up to date with relevant HSE legislation, liaising with health and safety authorities and trade unions.
  • Support with the alignment and communication of HSE procedures and updates
Driving Health & Safety

  • Responsible for providing effective communication on safe working practices within the workplace.
  • Addressing unsafe work, behaviours and practices and advising staff of all levels on health and safety matters and driving continuous improvement to improve culture.
  • Able to identify potential hazards and be able to drive suitable and sufficient resolutions, including effectivity checks when required.
Document Control

  • Ensuring Health and Safety policies, procedures and processes are being correctly generated and implemented according to the HS&E management system.
  • Compiling and presenting safety reports and statistics and highlighting any upandcoming trends.
  • Monitoring and maintaining health and safety stats and records on our computerised system.
Internal Support

  • Provide competent and comprehensive H&S advice and support to line leaders, enabling them to effectively manage HS&E within their areas(s) of responsibility.
  • Drive and support comprehensive investigations of accidents and incidents, identifying root causes and lessons learned corrective and preventative actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Conduct appropriate levels of HS&E assurance activities in support the effective deployment of the HS&E management system ensuring that meets the requirements of ISO 4500
  • Conducting regular inspections and internal audits of, processes and procedures, identifying areas of concern and driving improvements.
  • Support the promotion of continuous improvement through effective communication to staff in the effective management and control of significant HS&E risks within their area of responsibility.
External Support

  • Liaise with health and safety and environmental regulators where necessary.
  • Working with external suppliers to ensure sufficient monitoring and testing is provided where needed (e.g., environmental testing, water sampling).
Training

  • Develop and provide training to all staff on health and safety aspects within the organisation.
  • Ensure provisions are in place for safety specific training (e.g first aid, fire warden, manual handling)

Skills & Abilities required;**- Excellent presentation, oral and written (report writing) communication skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, whilst providing excellent customer
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Knowledge & Experience required;**- In depth knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.

  • Knowledge of appropriate safety & risk management systems
  • Strong experience in writing and reviewing risk assessments.
  • Experience in delivering health and safety advice, preferably in a multidisciplinary organisation.
  • Experience of developing and conducting health and safety audits and inspections.

Training & Education required;**- Qualified to at least NEBOSH General Certificate level or equivalent.

  • Willing to undertake additional professional training.
  • Health and safety Auditor training internal auditor course (ISO 45001 lead auditor)

Other Requirements;**- Awareness and understanding of ISO45001
