First Achieve Recruitment have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer, in the Norwich region.

You will be working with a contractor in Energy Engineering, who specialise in offering solutions to the oil and gas, marine, and offshore industries.

This is a Permanent Position, reporting to Design Engineering Manager.

Proactively undertaking design tasks assigned by the Design Engineering Manager including management of those tasks from project outset to completion of all requirements.


The salary on offer is in the region of £45-47k.

The Role:

  • Undertake design activities in accordance with Design Engineering Procedure.
  • Compile and develop conceptual designs and present to the project team (including Suppliers where appropriate), gather feedback and buy in.
  • Undertake or lead Mechanical and Structural calculations, and finite element analysis (FEA) which adhere and comply with company standards, protocols and appropriate industry codes.
  • To undertake or lead Mechanical and Structural drafting which adhere and comply with company standards, protocols and appropriate industry codes.
  • Prepare or lead preparation of supporting documentation in line with agreed industry standards as required by the project, such as drawings, inspection forms, test procedures, EMI's, etc.
  • Check / Approve colleague's calculations, FEA, drawings and documents as assigned. Give constructive feedback on colleague's work with the aim of improving standards of work and competence.
  • Present and chair design reviews in accordance with department training and guidelines documented in the Design Engineering Process, using IT equipment available to fully present the competed design, or support more junior engineers in their presentationof design reviews.
  • To support the sales effort to develop / review / approve design solutions, resource and delivery plans in support of company proposals.
  • Chair or participate actively in team meetings, seminars, reviews and project planning events.
  • Train and mentor graduate / developing engineers, leading by example, ensuring best practice and Design Engineering Procedure is followed as well as ensuring the highest standards are met.
  • Develop best practice and lead department improvement projects in conjunction with the Design Engineering Manager.
  • Consider the wider Design Department requirements as well as those for your own project.

Required:

  • Minimum HNC in Design Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in offshore industry.
  • Experience with structural and mechanical design in the offshore environment.
  • Experience of hydraulic system design.
