Location:

Hybrid working - primarily from home but also at Council Office at Abbey House, Abbey Close, Abingdon OX14 3JE.

Some on site attendance across the districts is also likely to be required.

Contract Type:
Fixed term for 2 years

Hours:

We are establishing an exciting new team to deliver and manage our Refugee Housing Programme.

The programme is working to provide transitional housing for a number of refugee groups through a number of different government schemes.

The programme involves the acquisition and management of transitional accommodation and community integration support for refugees while they settle in the UK.

About the role and what we're looking for


We are recruiting for a Community Support Supervisor to join our Community Hub Team and to lead the community support team working to support migrant families into permanent settled accommodation.


The aim of the community support team is to ensure tenants in the Settled Families Accommodation (SFA), Local Authority Housing Fund (LAHF) & Homes for Ukraine (HfU) schemes have the necessary support to settle them into longer term stable accommodation.

This will include supporting them into education, ESOL, training and employment and helping them to settle into their new homes.


Main duties and responsibilities:


  • Develop the procedures, processes and codes of conduct for community support team.
  • Be responsible for initial induction, training and ongoing support for community support officers
  • Manage, allocate and supervise the work of the community support officers
  • Oversee the daytoday supervision of the Community Support Team including the management of annual leave, annualised hours, sickness and expenses claims and assisting the team leader with recruitment.
  • Ensuring safeguarding of families and officers at all times
  • Provide ongoing practical and integration support to families accommodated under the migration schemes
  • Manage an assigned caseload offering appropriate individual support to families with the aim of assisting them to be able to live well and independently This will involve regular visits to people's homes around the districts
  • Work closely with the housing needs team to prepare properties for the families' arrival, including arranging the purchase and installation of white goods, furnishing and other household items
  • Under the supervision of the supervisor work closely with the housing needs team to ensure a coordinated package of support is offered to families to settle them into initial short term and ultimately longterm accommodation.
  • Assist families to register with GP and dental services
  • Work closely with other members of the team, interpreters, local authorities, volunteers and support providers,
  • Provide support as required to housing needs and housing management teams to help tenancies run smoothly
  • Make initial assessment of all families to determine the level of support required for English language provision, education and training.
  • Support attendance of ESOL classes for all families to help them to learn English
  • Support migrant families to settle and integrate in the districts
  • Collate data and compile reports as required
  • Work closely with other members of the team, interpreters, other local authorities, volunteers and support providers
  • Liaise with specialist services and providers (statutory and voluntary) to understand opportunities and constraints to maximise their support to families.
  • Liaise with key internal stakeholders and ensure they are kept informed of progress within communities to maximise knowledge share, inform strategic direction, opportunities and programmes of work and improve outcomes for the community
  • Work closely with Community Liaison Officers from other Oxfordshire councils and support agencies to ensure that a coordinated approach is taken and best practice shared across the county
  • Regularly visit and assist formal and informal support groups to understand the programme and provide the best support to hosts and guests in their own community
  • Periodically visit events and activities to listen to and share with hosts and guests
  • Help local community groups learn from each other and consider what more they might do
  • Refer (or help local groups refer) guests with specific needs to specialist services where CLO can't address
  • Attend and participate in meetings and training events as required
  • Any other duties relevant to the position and appropriate to the grading of the post
