About the College:

The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the professional membership body for psychiatrists and promotes excellent care for people with mental illness.

It has 19,000 members and engages with government and the media as the leading voice of the UK's mental health services.

The Project:

The National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH) at the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) are developing and delivering evidence-based implementation guidance for routine Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in community mental health services for adults, including older adults, with severe mental illness (SMI).

This work has been commissioned by NHS England.

Increasing the use of PROMs in community mental health services is an important feature of the 2019 NHS Long Term Plan.

In collaboration with an expert stakeholder group, NHS England has recommended three PROMs for use in community mental health services to implement by the end of 2023/24.

These are DIALOG, Goals Based Outcomes (GBO) and ReQoL-10.

The NCCMH is convening an Expert Reference Group (ERG) that reflects the broad scope of mental health care in England, including mental health clinicians, providers, commissioners, and people with lived experience of SMI and community mental health services.

The purpose of the ERG is to inform and guide the development of the guidance, comment on draft versions of the guidance as requested and provide support for the project as a whole.

The Expert Reference Group:

The ERG will comprise a number of professionals who have experience of implementing PROMs in community mental health services for adults, including older adults, with SMI.

They will use this experience to ensure the final guidance is evidence-based, practical and presented in an engaging and digestible format suitable for the primary audience.

It is crucial that this work is genuinely co-produced with those who have direct experience of mental health services (patient representatives) and with those who have supported them (family members/carers).

Patient/Carer representatives are involved in decision making at all levels of the process from the start to the end of the project in order to achieve a genuinely co-produced implementation guide.
