Job Overview
Philip Clay is a fast-growing cabinet making business based in High Wycombe.
We pride ourselves on exceptional quality and are looking for talented, ambitious, passionate, motivated and committed craftsmen with a genuine appreciation of cabinetmaking.
We are looking for a highly skilled Cabinet Maker able to assembly fitted bespoke cabinetry.Able to see a project through from working drawing to delivery and fitting, with accuracy and care, to the highest standard.
Our Workshop is fitted out with all necessary equipment, which we are committed to constantly upgrading, making workshop life as efficient as possible.
Responsibilities and Duties
Produce and assemble components of fitted bespoke cabinetry.
Able to work well within a team as well as independently.
Able to read working drawings accurately.
Create precise cutting lists from working drawings, with best use of material and minimum wastage.
Able to set up and operate machines, including panel saw, surface planer, mortiser, thicknesser, tenoner, spindle moulder, rip saw, pillar drill and band saw, to cut, mould, and shape a variety of wood and wood substitutes.
Able to measure and mark dimensions of parts on paper or wood prior to cutting, following working drawings, to ensure a tight fit and a quality product.
Be exact in measurements and markings so that materials will be used efficiently, and the projects will meet budgetary restrictions.
Know how to match materials for colour, grain, and texture, giving attention to knots and other features of the wood.
Know how to cut the timber to the right size and shape and trim parts of joints to ensure a snug fit, using hand tools such as planes, chisels, or wood files.
Able to trim, sand, and scrape surfaces and joints to prepare article for finishing.
Have an understanding of the finishing/spraying/oiling process.
Keep clean and repair when needed all equipment necessary for your work.
Maintain a safe working environment by cleaning and disposing of old materials, keeping workshop tidy.
Able to drive to site when needed.
Qualifications and Attributes
Degree, City and Guilds or Apprenticeship in Furniture/Cabinet making preferred.
A wealth of experience with considerable knowledge of practices, materials, and tools of the cabinet making trade.
Hard working, motivated and passionate.
Accurate, organized and precise.
Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Good communication skills, verbal and written.
Salary:
£25,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
