A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a x 2 Housing Advisers to join a public sector on a temporary contract based in Portsmouth.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide advice to customers on housing options, the housing waiting list and tenancy issues
  • Provide a comprehensive front line efficient and effective housing advice service to those in housing need or at risk of homelessness
  • Manage a caseload and assist with ad hoc project work, monitoring a specific area of work or developing a specialism and sharing learning with the rest of the team
  • Being customer focussed and able to demonstrate consistently high standards of customer service and has experience of working in a challenging front line service able to handle difficult and stressful situations
  • Carry out the councils statutory duties as stipulated by the current Government regulations and legislation

Skills Required:

  • The service is fast paced and deals with very challenging, complex and difficulty clients at times, you will need to be able to demonstrate excellent conversation management and coaching skills to build up a positive rappour with clients that motivates them to take responsibility for their own situation and work with the Council
  • Empathy and understanding are key to building relationships and this is about helping people when they are in a crisis so you will need strong people skills, enquiring and an investigative mind and the ability to communicate effectively to ensure customers understand the options available and the consequences of their choices.
  • You should be highly literate and numerate with excellent communication, organisational and IT skills.
  • You will have clear written communication skills including the ability to record information accurately and write formal letters which explain policy and legislation
  • Has an awareness of the Housing Act 2006 (amended) and Homelessness Legislation, the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 though this is not essential
  • Has an awareness of the welfare benefits system
  • Has an awareness of the private rented sector housing sector and landlord and tenant / private sector law
  • Has an awareness of the issues facing vulnerable client groups as well as a commitment to equal opportunities
