About Us:

  • We're one of the

finance career. We care about our staff and invest in training and development, so that we can continue to improve our performance and deliver value for money for the people of Hampshire.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • You'll study to become a Chartered Public Finance Accountant (equivalent to ACA, ACCA and CIMA, but with a focus on public sector finances), whilst learning on the job, with paid time off to study and take exams. In addition we will support you to develop your skills and experience while at work, getting you ready to progress in your accountancy career.
  • CIPFA is the only body to exclusively specialise in public finance. Its members are leading figures in government, councils, audit agencies and all major accountancy firms. As well as giving you an exceptional understanding of the challenges the public sector faces, and the tools to address them, studying for the CIPFA qualification is also very flexible and you can choose to learn in the classroom or online.
  • You will gain invaluable experience in a large and professional public sector organisation to support your qualification.
Some of the key tasks you will be performing include:

  • Delivering quality financial advice and guidance to directorates and partners
  • Assisting with budget monitoring, budget preparation and year end accounts
  • Helping directorates deliver savings targets across the County Council

What You'll Need To Succeed:

  • We're looking for the following skills and behaviours:
  • Excellent communication skills: The ability to build relationships and deliver excellent customer service
  • Strong work ethic: The desire to learn and progress and drive continuous improvement
  • Numerical ability: The ability to accurately interpret financial information
  • Team player: A commitment to contribute to both your team and the wider finance service
  • Selfstarter: The ability to use initiative, work independently and prioritise own workload
  • Please see the person specification for full details of what we'll expect from you in these roles

What Can We Offer You:

-
Supportive and collaborative working environment
  • We have a strong focus on employee wellbeing and development, providing support and training to help you grow personally and professionally

-
Pension

  • You'll have access to a Local Government Pension Scheme which, as a defined benefit scheme (your pension will be based on your average salary and years worked, rather than on the contributions you make), is a significant benefit on top of your salary which is hard to beat

-
Remote working

  • Most aspects of this role can be carried out remotely, complemented by regular officebased working to support business needs (currently a minimum of one day per week at our Winchester office). You'll be provided with a laptop and equipment to support hybrid working. Although you'll have the option to work remotely, we'll fully support you in getting to know our organisation, your role, and your team

-
Flexible working

  • We have opportunities for parttime and flexible working arrangements. We'll consider reduced or compressed hours

-
Annual leave

  • In addition to bank holidays, you'll receive 25 days per annum (prorata) rising to 28 days (prorata) after 5 years' service
