Introduction
We are currently seeking a Transport Depot Controller to join the team based at St Neots. The primary objectives of this role are to ensure depot responsibilities are achieved and maintained to a high standard.

Acting as an ambassador for the Explore brand you will be responsible for developing a positive, forward thinking culture which will be embedded in driver standards to assist with the delivery of Explore's values of Safety, Service and Efficiency.


Main responsibilities

  • Be the leading stakeholder for driver infringement management (Tru-Tac)
  • Management of EU & WTD regulations in line with 'O' Licensing obligations, escalating areas of concern accordingly
  • Enhance communications with driver team
  • Be a key stakeholder in Driver Forum process
  • Become drivers POC for operational issues
  • Assist with LGV Driver recruitment
  • Interviewing / Driving Assessments / Probationary Reviews
  • Assist with incident investigations, produce appropriate summary / escalation reports where required
  • In conjunction with the Training Team ensure full FORS compliance across driver team
  • Assist with managing the PCN / Fines resolution process
  • Manage LGV Driver Absence / RTW Interviews escalating any issues / concerns
  • Cascade ownership
  • In conjunction with the Training Team, embrace the use of available vehicle telematics and camera systems to offer coaching / performance improvements across the driver team
  • Be a key stakeholder undertaking disciplinary investigations
  • Ensure Cab / Uniform inspections are performed ensuring both drivers and vehicles adhere to Explore Transport's exacting standards
  • Addressing / Escalating issues where applicable
  • Undertake the relevant test & inspection of all accessories / auxiliary equipment allocated to trucks, trailers & drivers within your depot, ensuring full compliance
  • Ensure auxiliary equipment stock levels are maintained at an agreed level (Quartermaster)
  • Own the issuing of and signing out of such equipment (ET & Subcontract Drivers) to ensure tight controls exist and costs are apportioned where necessary
  • To ensure all parked trailers are chocked & park brakes applied where applicable
  • Assist with governance of fleet compliance for base and designated satellite depots, VOR & lock trailers off etc and communicate to key stakeholders in business
  • Undertake daily yard / trailer checks and cascade to the wider business
  • Frequency to be determined (Regional)
  • Supervise depot shunting operations and trailer changeovers

Qualifications

Required:

  • CPC
  • National or International
  • LGV Class 1 Licence
  • Valid Driver Qualification Card
  • IOSH or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Driver Assessor Qualification
  • Supervisory Qualification
  • Telehandler/FLT Licence
  • Chains and Inspection Training/Experience
  • Slinger Signaller Qualified
  • Plant Load/Secure Qualified
  • Banksman Qualified
  • ALLMI D1 + E Qualified

Experience

  • Sound understanding of transport legislation and operations, with supervisory / management experience
  • Be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, with the ability to multitask while maintaining professionalism throughout

Skills/Knowledge

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office
  • Proven written, numerical, communication and verbal skills
  • Accurate typing skills recognising need for attention to detail
