Best Start for All Family Support Coordinator


Hours of work: 16 hrs per week to be worked flexibly.


Salary:


NJC SCP: 16 £10,565.19

This post is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

The post is employed by Crosby Community Association on behalf of the Best Start for All Partnership

Location:
Principally Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire with some travel outside of the area. The post is based in Crosby Community Association.


Accountability:
The post holder will be managed by the Best Start Manager.


Purpose:

The post-holder will as 1 of 4 posts develop and deliver the Best Start for All Family Support Programme.

Best Start for All aims to address the significant risks and barriers to support faced by families with young children under 5 and their siblings living in an environment in which inequality and disadvantage is the norm:

  • By delivering a bespoke service aimed at meeting the whole needs of the family in achieving a positive, successful and healthy life; supporting the family to aspire to and achieve positive goals, reducing inequalities in early years outcomes and overall achieving positive change

The post holder will:

  • Deliver high standards of person centred, positive, assetbased practice in supporting clients and their children
  • Ensure inclusion and diversity in all aspects of the work

Principal Duties:

Development

  • To build on current and form new partnerships with other agencies and organisations with an interest in the client group including Schools, Health and Treatment services, Police Teams, Public Health
  • To contribute to relevant delivery partnerships
  • To ensure the implementation of appropriate risk management strategies to protect children, vulnerable people and volunteers and promote the wellbeing of all within a safe environment
  • To lead the successful delivery of Best Start for All and the accurate and timely reporting of progress to the Project Manager
  • With other staff, including project partner staff; deliver a volunteer recruitment, training and management programme, to support volunteers to develop and deliver tailored packages of support to meet the identified needs of families
  • To ensure that all provision for families and volunteers is of a high quality and achieves measurable outcomes for those taking part and to ensure that distance travelled/outcomes are properly measured and evaluated.
  • With the Project Manager and other learning staff within the organisation, develop relevant learning opportunities for both volunteers and clients
  • To ensure that the activities and services are available to all those who would wish to take part by ensuring that the projects activities are accessible, nonjudgemental and person centred.

Management

  • To manage the volunteers working with the families
  • To provide supervision for volunteers
  • Receiving referrals, assessing need and matching families with an appropriate volunteer and to hold a caseload of families
  • Making referrals and wider community links for the benefit of the family members
  • Ensuring support to clients is reviewed and evaluated at regular intervals and at the end support
  • Ensuring the Safeguarding Children (including safe recruitment of volunteers), Managing Allegations against staff policies and Disclosure and Barring procedures are followed
  • To ensure that risk management procedures and practices are put in place including risk assessments for all activities
  • To ensure the delivery of outputs and outcomes
  • To arrange training as necessary for volunteers
  • To ensure that appropriate records are kept in relation to all activity, including case files and according to data protection
  • To ensure effective and robust links are maintained with other Best Start for All staff and partners.

General Duties

  • To organise own caseload and time effectively
  • Raise the profile of Best Start for All within the sector and with partners in other sectors and using this to promote the concept of voluntary work and the sector generally
  • Contributing to the Best Start for All communications e.g. social media/website posts/ Newsletter and the organisations communications
  • To provide monitoring and evaluation information as required
  • To adhere to Organisation policies and procedures
  • Any other duties commensurate with the nature and scale of the post.

Person Specification

Essential:


Experience:


  • Experience of working with public, community and voluntary sectors.
  • Experience of developing, monitoring and evaluating projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, consultation and negotiation skills.
  • Extensive experience in a related area of work, in a similar role.
  • Experience of managing paid staff or volunteers.
  • Experience of planning and implementing project/s.
  • Experience of training, coaching, counselling or mentoring people.
