Description

Job Title:
Communications Business Partner

Location:
Cheltenham, Gloucestershire (hybrid working)

Role Overview:

The phrase, 'we're transforming our business' is a bit over used these days, but it does indicate what we're doing here in Steam Specialties in the Spirax Sarco Engineering Group.

To avoid any more of that sort of business jargon will be an effort, but let's try.

In fact, that's one of the key challenges of this role.

To remove some of the business jargon and bring about some real change in the way people experience their time at work.

We've got a new Internal Communications Strategy which is all about helping us to develop our culture.

Your role will be to help to drive the implementation of that new Internal Communications Strategy and to do that you'll work closely with the Steam Specialties Executive Committee and each of their management teams.

You will also help to implement and drive adoption of new tools and new practices as we build a communicating organisation to help others in the business be better communicators themselves.

Your objectives and responsibilities will focus on:

  • Within the framework of our Internal Communications Strategy, consulting on the need for communications interventions and then designing suitable approaches to help us shift the organisation to being truly Purpose-led
  • Identifying opportunities to bring about cultural change and build skills and capability in the business focussed on improving the quality of communication. We want to add value by creating a consistent cultural experience based on our Values, our leadership behaviours (the Followership Model) and our Inclusion Plan. You will be key to helping us achieve this
  • Seeking ways to use the new tools and techniques that will be implemented and to guide that implementation in Steam Specialties to support our goals

Your previous experience is likely to include:

  • You will be focussed on the employee experience and with a desire to help people feel informed, connected, and purposeful at work. If you're a member of the Institute of Internal Communications, you are possibly at Level 2 in the Professional Development Map and seeking to move to Level 3; or alternatively, operating within Level 3 with a desire to broaden your experience of advising on communication strategies and approaches; developing of overall channel infrastructure and evaluation processes; and supporting leaders in becoming highly effective communicators
  • Transferable skills from other areas would include consultancy and familiarity with advising senior leadership teams as well as coaching line managers. You will be passionate about developing an organisational culture and be clear how to adopt different models to help you make an impact. It's likely that you have put in place programmes to assist in the communication of particular changes at work or to help with the development of a new idea amongst colleagues
  • You'll be able to pick up on the informal feedback channels in the business and assess how things might land, and have an eye for where improvements can be made.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be able to take a good look at where communications is working well and help to spread good practice, and you'll be able to find ways to investigate when things are not so good and suggest then design ways to make them better
  • It's important that you are driven to make a real difference in the way that people experience their time in work. You'll be curious to learn more and will be able to fit within a team of likeminded professionals who are similarly driven
  • Technical competency is something that you are quick to pick up on and can develop new abilities easily as well as, perhaps obviously, having a passion for communications and people

Why Spirax-Sarco?

  • Across the Spirax-Sarco Engineering Group, we're passionate about creating inclusive and equitable working culture where everyone can be themselves and achieve their full potential. For us, that means supportive teams and strong relationships where everyone's contribution is valued across social and cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, ages, genders, gender identities, abilities, neurodiversity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, and everything else that makes us human and unique. _
  • We want everyone to be able to make their difference here, so we will always consider requests for flexible working (such as fulltime, parttime, select days and job sharing). _
