About this client/child:

Sami (6) lives in a happy, loud, singing and dancing home environment with his mum and older brother.

Sami has many activities he loves; going to cafes and restaurants, and the top of the list is visiting supermarkets, especially if they have a bakery aisle Sami is a huge fan of Peppa Pig, toy cars and having books read to him about cars.

Sami was born with Lesch - Nyan Syndrome and is dependent entirely on others for his all his needs, such as personal care, manual handling and feeding.

He has involuntary movement and can be floppy or become rigid. He eats pureed food and absolutely LOVES his food He has recently been introduced to Eye Gaze and can make a choice between Jaffa cake or mini roll or both perhaps He can show very definite negative/positive nonverbal communication; crying, screaming, not giving eye contact, babbling, cooing and of course that laugh

Overview of role:

Sami's day begins at 8 am when you will get him up and ready for breakfast and school. Sami's Mum will drop you both off at school, where you support him as his 1:1. This is a wonderful opportunity to work as that bridge between home and school; you only support Sami.

You will be his champion throughout the day; supporting him to obtain information through fun and creative activities, swimming and implementing physio/OT therapies instructed by his multi-disciplinary team.

Sami's Mum will bring you both home.

Sami likes to spend around 40 minutes upstairs with mum, for cuddles and reading, giving you time to do some light food prep for dinner.

Patience and a lovely sense of humour are required as dinner can take up to an hour.

Then it's some cosy time with books or watching some Peppa Pig before mum takes over for shower time and bed.

Term time 37 plus hours available, any 3 x days per week, 08.00 am to 7.00 pm, you will be expected to work either a Saturday or Sunday, 09.30 am to 3.30 pm.

There will be additional hours available during holidays. £25, Gross per Annum / £13.00 Gross per Hour

Who this job would suit:

Sami can be very anxious if the routine suddenly changed so the routine in place must be regimented.

Sami does not understand the concept of time; for example, it will be very challenging for him to understand if let's say school suddenly must close for a day without warning; he will need consistent reassurance for him to begin to feel less anxious.

You will bring confidence to this role to allow him to grow in himself, trust that you are there to keep him safe and happy, and entertained.

He is no pushover; he is quite particular about people so you will quickly know if you are in or out You will be well-rounded and have a laugh at your own expense - Sami will appreciate slap-stick humour

What's great about this job:

It is essential to have hands-on experience supporting a young person with physical and cognitive disabilities but there will be ongoing supervision and training when required.

The family do travel so there will be times when you will be asked to join them. Valid Passport, please
