This role is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Nurse looking to take on a new challenge.

As a Pre-Assessment Nurse you will be responsible for ensuring that patients attending the hospital for pre-assessments receive a comprehensive and quality service.


The Pre-Assessment unit pride themselves on high standards and are committed to ensuring patients have the best possible experience before they are admitted into hospital.


Working as part of a team, the role requires a flexible approach to work, commitment, the ability to prioritise and, organise your workload as well as the ability to communicate and work with the wider multidisciplinary team.

We have a full time position available. The post holder will be required to work across all sites as part of the current service.


Responsibilities of a Pre-Assessment Junior Sister:
Not only make correct assessments in accordance with protocols, but also giving patients reassurance and support.

Be part of a close-knit team with nurse-led care and Anaesthetic-led service.


Fully understand each patient's needs and give them and their families the comfort and reassurance that can mean so much.


As part of the wider hospital team, you will interact with practitioners from other areas because you understand that continuity with patient care is key.


Provide clinical supervision to assess, develop, implement and evaluate Pre-Assessment on a daily basis and work closely with all disciplines to ensure the effective running of the department within set guidelines in the absence of the Manager on duty.

Provide managerial leadership with the team and help with the development of staff.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The post holder will work as a member of the Pre-Assessment team in Out-patients capacity and is expected to participate in the screening and triaging process of elective surgical patients using established algorithms and sound clinical judgement to undertake triage assessments of Patients, in an efficient and effective way.


The post holder will work closely with POA consultant anaesthetists to undertake and ensure effective referrals are made in line with guidance across the Nurse-led POA service, by initiating and supporting appropriate referrals and developing and teaching the team as a result to ensure the Nurse-led service runs effectively.


The post holder will combine excellent clinical practice with combine excellent clinical practice with day to day shift coordination and undertake leadership responsibilities in support of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, to continually support and work in conjunction with the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, including deputising/taking charge of the clinical area/ team in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
