UE08 £45,585 to £54,395 per annum (A revised salary range for this grade of £48,350 to £59,421 is planned to take effect from Spring 2024)

Finance/Finance Operations

Open ended, full time (35 hours per week)


We are seeking to appoint a Deputy Head of Finance Operations to fulfill a key role in leading, shaping and driving key services, efficiencies and process improvements across Finance Operations.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant team.

We have huge ambition and appetite for the work we do and are expanding our Finance Operations Leadership Team to help us achieve our ambitious delivery plans.


The opportunity

The Deputy Head of Finance Operations will:

  • Lead, shape, and drive the Finance Operations Satellite Teams
  • Drive efficiencies and process improvements in key services within Finance Operations through collaboration with several key stakeholders including Procurement Operations and the People & Money team, providing efficient and effective highquality support and continuity of endtoend processes;
  • Lead the development of reporting and monitoring of performance and metrics across all Finance Operations services delivered across the University.


This post is permanent and full-time (35 hours per week), however, longer term we are open to considering flexible working patterns.

We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

As well as our Central Teams in Chambers Street, Edinburgh, our Finance Operations Satellite Teams are based at Pollock Halls, Edinburgh and Easter Bush Veterinary Campus, Midlothian, and a regular onsite presence at each location will be required.


Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Significant experience of leading, shaping and driving Finance Operation Teams and services
  • Significant experience in leadership, staff development and managing a team, preferably within Higher Education or a similar sector
  • Significant experience to bear on problem resolution, change and service development
  • Qualification/experience in Business Process Management and Change Management
  • Experience of strategic and operational planning, and of initiating, managing, and delivering organisational change projects
