An exciting opportunity has arisen, for a motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistant with relevant experience to join our Northern Care Alliance Delivery Team, supporting recruitment and sample collection for the Post-Mortem Tissue Retrieval in

Upper Gastrointestinal Adenocarcinoma:
Unravelling Transcriptional Networks in Metastasis (TraNMet) alongside other Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) research trials.


We are looking for a motivated and effective communicator with a 'can do' attitude and an eye for detail; they will need to take ownership and delivery of their work with a desire to develop their research skills.

You should be organise/able to prioritise and demonstrate initiative, within the ethically approved confines of the protocol and Good Clinical Practice; able to thrive on challenges and be an effective problem solver.


This role will require the individual to work with patients with terminal cancer diagnosis as well as their families and the palliative care teams.

It is essential that the successful applicant is able to demonstrate sensitivity and professionalism in this role.


As part of your work you will be required to attend post-mortems and support staff with sample collection labelling and organising the transfer of materials.

You will be based at the Salford Care Organisation and managed by the Delivery Team Lead.

There will be an occasional requirement to travel to the The Christie NHS Foundation trust to support research trial activities.

The Inpatient Research Delivery Team currently support a variety of collections including the upper GI trials.

The research portfolio is continually evolving and as part of training you may be required to work on some of the studies that we deliver to provide you with the experience and training that you need to support you in the role.
