Description

Care Assistant/s required to support a young man who lives in Lanchester, Durham:

Care Assistant/s required to support a young man with autism and severe disabilities, using a positive behaviour support framework to ensure a physical and emotional environment that will give him the happiest and safest life possible.

The young man lives in Lanchester, Durham.

Up to 35 hours per week, Hours will generally be 9am-4pm, Monday-Friday and it can be full time or two part time workers.

Pay is £13 per hour.


Duties:

Support him in all aspects of his daily life, keeping him and others safe
Support him in his medical needs e.g. epilepsy, food allergies

Support and encourage him to take part in activities in the community and at home, for example: swimming, walking, forest school, museum trips, theme parks etc.

Work in partnership with him and his family
Support and encourage him to develop independence skills

Support and encourage him to develop his communication skills using a total communication environment (Communication aid use, signing, body language).

Support him to manage his emotions and behaviour by following his behaviour support plan.
Be respectful to him and his family
Assist with personal care, preserving his dignity at all times
Maintain his privacy and keep information about him confidential
Attend any necessary training
Any other duties appropriate to the role

Car owner preferred with a full UK driving licence

  • A DBS will be required, the employer will cover the cost
  • Person Specification for Care Assistant/s:
Qualifications and training - A Good standard of education is essential
Desirable - Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support, Safeguarding, Autism, Learning disabilities, First Aid


Skills and abilities:
Desirable - A driver
Essential - Good expressive and receptive communication skills

  • Able to adapt communication to meet an individuals need
Able to work as part of team. Able to act on own initiative

  • Able to remain calm in stressful situations. Able to encourage and motivate
  • Solution focussed. IT literate
  • Physically fit and able to take part in sports and outdoor activities

Personal qualities:
Desirable - Non smoker
Essential - Happy and calm disposition. Reliable and punctual
Empathetic, trustworthy and honest, non judgemental

  • Willingness to learn and respond to feedback. Able to reflect
  • Positive and flexible attitude. Enjoy outdoor activities
