Fixed term, 2 years

Full time, 35 hours per week


The Centre for Cardiovascular Science is looking for an individual to contribute to the management and publishing of work funded by The University of Edinburgh, which is positioned to understand and exploit the inflammatory mechanisms of hypertension and associated target organ damage with a particular focus on vascular and neuroimmune mechanisms.


The Opportunity:


The post will involve analysis of immune cells and their function in vascular remodelling regeneration in hypertension and manipulating their functions and assessing therapeutic gain in models of disease (angiotensin II-induced hypertension, spontaneous hypertension models etc).

Key immunology, molecular biology and genetic approaches will be undertaken. Studies will encompass translational aspects by looking in hypertensive patient populations.


Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Appropriate degree, with relevant post-graduate research experience and accumulated knowledge
  • A PhD or thesis submitted/in preparation or equivalent professional qualification and/or experience in the cardiac or vascular immunology and vascular biology/therapy.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing and with appropriate IT and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in relevant approaches and models, analytical techniques and methods (includes practical lab work, data analysis and subsequent dissemination of research in form of publication), particularly understanding inflammatory mechanisms of disease, cardiovascular disease models as well as methodologies in vascular biology
