E&m Multiskilled Craftsperson - Glasgow, United Kingdom - Scottish Water
Description
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland. Most people don't think too much about how clean water reaches their taps. But Scottish Water does. In fact, it's all we think about.
We're looking for an E&M Multiskilled craftsperson with a Mechanical bias to join our Engineering and Maintenance team in Glasgow and west to help keep our operational sites running smoothly.
This team installs, maintains and repair the critical infrastructure that deliver 1 billion litres of drinking water and remove 940 million litres of waste water from Scottish homes, businesses and industry.
What You'll Do
You'll be working with our wider E&M team to deliver a proactive service to make sure that the plant and equipment we use at our Water and Waste Water sites is safe and working effectively.
You'll use your core mechanical craft skills, as well as your electrical knowledge to problem solve technical issues, thinking outside of the box to fault find and diagnose.
Expect to be working on a range of pumps, including progressive cavity, diaphragm and centrifugal, valves, including gate, non-return, air and butterfly, gearboxes, gears, bearings, seals, compressors, blowers, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, assembling and disassembling of equipment to component level, and various types of pipework.
Your safety is paramount.
It is essential that you take all necessary steps to protect yourself and others, including risk assessments, choosing appropriate equipment, keep up to date with essential training and following safe working practices.
You'll work closely with our office support team to plan and co-ordinate resources across the region, with the shared goal of delivering an effective and cost-efficient response to incidents, reactive or planned work, whilst looking for innovative ways to continually drive improvements.
You'll have served a full apprenticeship and have an HNC or NC in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (or the equivalent experience)
This is a field-based role - and involves a fair amount of lone working. That means you need a full GB-issued Driving License (DVLA) to reach our sites. Most of them aren't accessible by public transport.
You'll need to be happy to work on a standby rota (you'll be paid an additional standby retainer to compensate you for this)
In this role you'll be communicating with internal and external customers about work being carried out on site, giving progress reports and keeping people up to date.
You'll be comfortable using computer systems and on-line learning modules to get up to speed quickly.
And it goes without saying, you'll need an ironclad commitment to Health & Safety, to protect yourself, your colleagues and the public.
While the work we do is important, we know it's not the only thing that matters. That's why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
This role has optional weekend working and out of hour working, but you'll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays).
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there's our pension (the 'know-what-you'll-get-when-you-retire' kind), and life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus.
Not to mention access to SW Splash - handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small printThis role will be a Grade 6. If you're new to Scottish Water, you'll join us on a starting salary of £33,560. Performance-driven pay progression will then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £44,140. You'll also receive a monthly standby retainer payment.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don't worry - we'll ask your permission before starting these checks.
