AmSafe Bridport has an opportunity for a Production Inspector based at our head office in Bridport Dorset and will report to the Quality Manager.


AmSafe is a worldwide market leader for cargo restraints and protection systems in aviation and defence; we design, develop & manufacture world-class engineered têxtile solutions for the safety & securement needs of the global aerospace and defence industries.


Working with major aircraft manufacturers, our products include airframe safety systems, aircraft safety equipment, cargo restraint solutions and RPG protection.

We have manufacturing, operational and service facilities in the UK, North America and Sri Lanka.


Purpose of the Role:

To support AmSafe Bridport by inspecting product manufactured on site by the production team. Evaluate and understand technical drawings and inspection documents.

Building relationships with both production and the rest of the quality team for effective working practices to ensure the inspection criteria can be met and documented sufficiently.

Working with KPI metric data to monitor production right first time data. Help to drive improvement in production practices to improve quality and productivity. Working closely with all internal stakeholders on NPI projects as necessary.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Inspect manufactured product in line with inspection requirements
  • Assisting with data collection for completion of FAI reports in line with AS9102. Reporting back to the FAI quality engineer on these documents for support where necessary.
  • Maintaining required level of inspection documentation.
  • Collecting and maintaining KPI data for right first time and specifics around any errors that may have been found.
  • Work with production to perform in process inspections if products require such inspections.
  • Creation / updates of documentation used by production e.g. Manufacturing Instruction Sheet, Process guide etc as necessary.
  • Working with production and Quality to complete RCCA activities as necessary and implement changes to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Working with internal stakeholders on NPI activities to ensure effective implementation of new products to the production floor.
  • Assist with process and products audits within the shop floor as necessary.
  • Participate in Quality meetings and present product quality issues.
  • Ability to inspect product to engineering data / drawings sufficiently to determine compliance e.g. using hand measuring tools and reading specifications / completing Acceptance Test Reports to evaluate compliance.

Experience and Skills Required

Education:

Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred. Good level of reading or writing skills to enable review and interpretation of engineering drawings and specification.


Experience:


  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings / specifications essential
  • Ability to use measuring equipment to 0.01mm correctly is essential
  • FAI awareness iaw AS9102 essential
  • Experience of Quality Engineering within a manufacturing environment essential. Aerospace manufacturing environment preferred.
  • 8D,Lean, Six Sigma with experience of process capability analysis and process improvement preferred

Knowledge & Personal Attributes:


  • Strong knowledge of mechanical components
  • Knowledge of quality analysis tools such as 8D, PFMEA etc.
  • Strong problem solving skills with ability to facilitate problem solving within production staff.
  • Confidence in decision making.
  • Experience in inspecting manufactured products.
  • Strong communication and team skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self motivated with a high level of initiative
  • Good data analysis and reporting skills

Computer Skills:

Proficient in use of MS Office software, Excel, Word, PowerPoint


Physical demands:

The job holder requires sufficient arm/hand and finger dexterity to operate a key board effectively and hand measuring equipment. Manipulation of product for inspection activities will also be required.


Interpersonal demands:

Written and oral communication is a very important part of this role. The job involves exchanging information, ideas and views both orally and in writing.


Job structure:


The job holder is required to perform duties within predetermined standards and procedures and have the ability to perform routine tasks without supervision.

The job holder is also required to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities within the work place
