Overview


This role offers the opportunity to establish a new expert team in the centre of Defra to provide economics input to the Digital, Data and Technology Services (DDTS) team (via Group Infrastructure and Operations (GIO)) and the Terrestrial Natural Capital Ecosystem Assessment (tNCEA) team.

You will sit within the Economic Appraisal team of the Office of the Chief Economist (OCE) with direct support provided by a Senior Economist.

You will establish and grow links to DDTS and tNCEA, allocating your resources between them as required.

Teams


The Office of the Chief Economist is a team of around twenty economists working on cross-cutting and strategic projects for Defra.

We sit within Central Analysis and Insight Division, which is led by the Defra Director of Analysis, who is also our Chief Economist.

The division also contains expert teams of social researchers and operational researchers, who you will be able to draw on to provide support and input to your work.

Digital, Data and Technology Services is the trusted team for digital across the entire Defra Group.

We have around 1,200 colleagues across DDTS, and our ambition is to make it easier and faster than ever for people to interact with Defra.

The GIO team ensures all Defra technology adheres to strict government policies and processes and oversees the end-to-end delivery of our digital services.

The GIO Portfolio is accountable for delivering innovation, maintenance and upgrades of infrastructure that supports the Defra Group, and reports to the Director of GIO.


The Terrestrial Natural Capital Ecosystem Assessment Programme is delivering the key systems, services and capabilities for the monitoring, measurement, and assessment of our natural environment.

This will assess the success of Government environmental policies, and progress towards Government environment targets, whilst driving better evidence-based policy making and interventions.

This role will link directly to the Programme Management Team, which includes several roles for project and programme delivery, integrated with a team of natural scientists, data scientists, and delivery professionals working together in an agile, transformative, and fast-paced programme.
