Human Resources Officer
This is an exciting opportunity to join Dame Allan's HR team in this highly successful school.

The Human Resources Officer will deliver an exceptional and comprehensive HR provision to the Schools across the full employee life cycle.

You will provide advice and guidance on Schools policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and code of practice.

As post holder, you will hold a key role within a small yet busy department. You will deliver a proactive and efficient day to day HR service for the Schools.


You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be comfortable working with colleagues and partners at all levels, exercising tact, diplomacy and confidentiality where appropriate.

This role will suit someone who is confident, resilient and a creative thinker.

This role is based at our Senior School (Fenham) location with occasional travel to our Junior School (Hunter's Moor).


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This is illustrative of the general nature and level of responsibility of the work to be undertaken, commensurate with the grade. _
  • Provide advice and support on employee relations including performance management, absence, capability, disciplinary and grievance and all other areas of employee relations ensuring compliance with the Schools' policies and procedures.
  • Be accountable for the compliance and maintenance of HR records including but not limited to, the Single Central Record, HRIS and employee personnel files.
  • Preparation of contractual documents for new employees and ensure they are issued within required timescales.
  • Responsible for induction training for support staff and assisting as appropriate with the induction of teaching colleagues ensuring suitable inputs from specialist staff to cover all aspects of induction.
  • Provide timely management reports to the Head of HR in order to develop proactive solutions for long term absence related issues.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and up to date employee records ensuring compliance with GDPR.
  • Assist the payroll department with monthly payroll queries and the administration of employee benefits.
  • Keep up to date with emerging HR issues and changes in legislation.
  • To assist with the organisation of training needs for all staff including the sourcing of external training provision where required.
  • To undertake projects as and when directed by the Head of HR.

General:

  • Comply with the policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person and undertake safeguarding training.

  • To undertake any other duties and responsibilities, which do not change the character and purpose of the post as directed by the Head of HR.

Person Specification
The successful applicant should possess the following experience, qualifications and qualities:

  • Demonstrate solid HR generalist experience of working within a busy HR environment in an HR Officer / Advisor capacity;
  • Hold 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) grade A-C (94) or equivalent in English and Mathematics;
  • Be CIPD qualified or working towards qualification;
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills with a good foundation in HR theory;
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of current employment law regulations, statutory guidance and best practice;
  • Experience of working in the Education sector is desirable but not essential;
  • Experienced working in a unionised environment including and consulting with Trade Unions;
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding within schools desirable however training will be provided;
  • Able to show initiative and prioritise own work and that of others even when under pressure;
  • Able to work flexibly to support others and respond to unplanned situations;
  • Articulate and approachable with
