IDS is responsible for providing IT infrastructure and services to support the council's operations and the services it offers to the community.

IDS works with a variety of technology solution and service providers to ensure the best outcomes for the council and its customers.


As the Head of Solution Architecture, you will play a key role in developing and supporting the solution architecture practice within IDS.

You will work closely with senior leaders within Digital Services, as well as senior project stakeholders across all directorates in the council, to understand their requirements and develop architecture solutions that meet their needs.


You lead a team of Solution Architects and a Technical Architect, and also work alongside the Enterprise Architect and the CTO, to deliver a streamlined architecture practice that follows the best practices and standards in the industry.

You will help to build and maintain effective relationships with the council's technology suppliers and ensure that the solutions they provide are fit for purpose and deliver value for money.

This role will report to the Digital Services, Chief Technology Officer.


Working for the Islington Council Digital Services Architecture team means being part of a group responsible for designing and implementing technology solutions to support the council's IT infrastructure and services.

As a team member, you will work closely with various stakeholders to understand their requirements and develop architecture solutions that align with the council's goals and objectives.

Your role might involve analysing existing systems, identifying areas for improvement, and designing efficient and secure IT solutions.

This could include recommending hardware and software solutions, defining system integration strategies, and ensuring compliance with data protection and security standards.


Additionally, you may collaborate with other teams and external vendors to coordinate implementation efforts, provide technical guidance, and support, and contribute to the overall Digital strategy of the Islington Council.

It's an important role that contributes to enhancing the council's technology capabilities and supporting the efficient delivery of services to the community.

  • Manage a diverse group of staff to deliver services effectively.
  • Support and develop team members' performance and growth through coaching and monitoring.
  • Identify costeffective ways to improve business processes and strategies in collaboration with managers, service representatives, and partners.
  • Develop and communicate a clear architectural vision and strategy for the organisation.
  • Lead and manage the architecture team, providing guidance and mentorship.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into architectural solutions.
  • Establish and enforce architectural standards, principles, and best practices.
  • Evaluate and recommend relevant technologies, frameworks, and tools.
  • Conduct architecture reviews and provide guidance on system design and integration.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to drive innovation.
  • Collaborate with project managers and development teams for successful project delivery.
  • Promote crossfunctional collaboration and communication.
  • Monitor and assess the performance and effectiveness of the architecture function, making improvements as needed.
Primary Job Function

  • Research, design, and oversee implementation of complex business information systems, servers, and network infrastructure for IT projects.
  • Evaluate new technologies and advise senior management on solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Review existing solutions and recommend improvements through technology.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations and industry standards for functionality, data security, and interoperability.
  • Qualityassure designs from third parties and other departments to ensure they meet IT and industry standards.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to assess proposed IT developments and make
recommendations.

  • Create highlevel and lowlevel designs for project initiation.
  • Translate business and user requirements into technical functional and nonfunctional requirements.
  • Negotiate with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet user needs and technical standards.
  • Collaborate within the architecture community in Digital Services.
