Description
Our Short-Term Support Service is a multi-disciplinary team, that consists of Occupational Therapists, Reablement Workers, Physiotherapists and Support Staff. The teams are instrumental in delivering a high quality of care to support rehabilitation and reablement across Northumberland.


There are two posts available - the first is based in Blyth; the second will be based between Alnwick and Berwick.

You may be asked to work across multiple Trust sites.

  • Operational management of core health and social care services to a defined population including maintaining overall responsibility for service planning and delivery in line with policies laid down by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Northumberland County Council Social Services Department.
  • Day to day management of the community team within a specified area.
  • Management of staff providing a range of communitybased services which contribute to ongoing care, rehabilitation and intermediate care.
  • To ensure effective and timely service delivery and development across the interfaces between professions, teams, and organisations.
  • To maximise individual and service outcomes and facilitate a person centred approach to promoting clients' independence.
  • Required to manage financial and physical resources in the team in accordance with legal requirements and service principles.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams/departments and across organisational boundaries.

  • To work clinically as required.
  • To advise and guide the physiotherapists and technical instructors (TI's) who work within STSS localities to ensure high quality service delivery in relation to the service guidelines, as well as organisational and national guidelines.
  • To monitor the performance of the physiotherapists and TIs working in designated area and offer feedback to support clinical improvements.
  • To work as a resource for all physiotherapists and TIs working in designated area to ensure the maintenance of equitable service delivery.
  • To participate in the supervision of physiotherapy staff within designated area in the form of peer review, live supervision, clinical meetings and formal one to one's.
  • To participate in annual staff appraisal.
  • To ensure the progression of Continued Professional Development and the retention of documented evidence in the form of portfolios.
  • To support locally with wellbeing/ HR/Occupational Health.
  • To support the development of physiotherapy and rehabilitation services.
  • To provide management and leadership to a team of physiotherapists and support staff within a given locality.
  • Directly responsible to OSM/Clinical Lead.
  • To inform the Senior Manager of professional requirements to maintain a high standard of physiotherapy interventions for and on behalf of designated area.
  • To liaise with physiotherapists to create integrated pathways of care and to ensure best practice on behalf of the designated client group.
  • To maintain a high level of personal / professional competency and to appraise that of others.
