The Inpatient Therapy Service is looking for an individuals with a passion for providing compassionate person centred care as a Therapy Assistant.


Working as part of a team of dedicated and skilled clinicians you will support the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to provide safe quality care to a range of patients on the wards.

These patients are acutely unwell, often complex patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions. You may also be involved in assisting with home visits or patients on other wards as required.


Previous experience in a healthcare setting is essential and experience of working with patients in a rehabilitation context will be an advantage.

An ability to demonstrate a proactive flexible approach and to be able to work well on own initiative is essential.

Week commencing

To be professional and be accountable for all aspects of your own work.

Implementing therapy treatment plans as prescribed by the Registered Therapist or Assistant Practitioner, taking responsibility for analysing their impact and to report treatment results.


The post holder will recognise precautions, signs/symptoms, and contraindications in relation to the delivery of patient care and will seek the support of an appropriate qualified member of the team, when necessary.


To assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid consent and to have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment.


To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to effectively information with patients and parents in order to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes.

To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all appropriate equipment. Checking equipment is safe for patient use and teaching patients to assemble & dismantle equipment efficiently.


To be responsible for timely feedback to the Registered Therapists or Assistant Practitioners, any changes in patient's condition, who would need re-assessment and revision of programme.

To undertake non-clinical/administration tasks as appropriate for the service.

To implement treatment programmes with appropriate patients as prescribed by the registered therapists or Assistant Practitioners.

To organise and assist with the running of appropriate therapy groups as required.

To monitor stock and equipment in the therapy department.

To assist in the cleaning and maintenance where appropriate.

To be well presented, polite and courteous always.

To undertake any other duties that might be considered appropriate by the Therapy Services Manager and/or Inpatient Therapy Service Lead
