About the role

Summary

  • To plan, organise and lead the on site maintenance both preplanned, remedial, and reactive works to the Airports Civil Engineering infrastructure, using Birmingham Airports asset management software.
  • Improving the passenger journey be ensuring availability, good order and safe operation of Airport assets and infrastructure
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and sustainability of the Airports Civil Engineering Infrastructure.
  • To keep the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) up to date for the relevant Infrastructure

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversight of on site maintenance activities by small Airport Civil Engineering team consisting of Lead Civil Engineering General Operative + Civil Engineering General Operative and relevant contracted activities.
  • Provide technical assistance and expertise for managing maintenance activities and other activities within the remit of the post.
  • Maximising the Airports Civil Engineering Infrastructure availability through good maintenance practices, typically including small asphalt repairs (overbanding, joint sealing, crack sealing, small asphalt patches), concrete repairs (joint sealing, coating, infills and patches) and repairs and maintenance to water hydrants, line markings, street furniture and fencing.
  • Assist in the Maintenance of Flood and Pollution Infrastructure including inspections, pump maintenance and monitoring systems maintenance.
  • Inspection of Civil Engineering Infrastructure.
  • To plan, organise and supervise appropriate resources for both planned maintenance activities and reactive maintenance activities including planning working hours around the activities/operational requirements as required.
  • Assist with the completion of appropriate documentation as required, i.e. operations manuals, risk assessments, method statements, inspection reports / log books, stores requisitions, cost coding, vehicle daily inspection reports, job reports. This is not exhaustive.
  • Responding to issues with Civil Engineering Infrastructure in a timely and practical manner.
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining stock levels required for the post, including collection and delivery of materials from stores and suppliers.
  • Carry out checks and monitoring on relevant mechanical plant and equipment.
  • To escort and supervise external contractors and assist in arranging their visits.
  • Familiarisation of new installations by third parties including consultation at design phase if required.
  • Able to read layout drawings.
  • Escalation/reallocation of jobs to the appropriate owner.
  • Assisting other trades as required.
  • To support the promotion of a health and safety culture across the airport.
  • Contribute to the safe operation of assets, services, and systems.
  • NVQ Level 3 / ONC / OND / BTEC National Certificate or NQV Level 2 (with relevant experience) in relevant Civil Engineering Discipline
  • Relevant Health and Safety Qualification
  • 5 years+ experience in relevant Civil Engineering disciple
  • A full and clean driving licence (Class 2 ideally)
  • Fork lift licence (ideally)
  • To support the continuing operation of Birmingham Airports Civil Engineering Infrastructure
  • Great communication skills, both public and interdepartmental
  • Ability to use Word, Excel and Email
  • Must be able to work on own initiative as well as work within a team environment
  • Willingness to receive training as deemed appropriate
  • Keeping up to date on new technology/systems that could benefit Birmingham Airports Operational and sustainability targets
  • To undertake any duties commensurate with the grading of the post which may be determined from time to time.
