Description
Are you interested in helping influence how much your elected councillors are paid?

The Independent Remuneration Panel plays an important role in advising the Council on the remuneration, allowances and expenses that should be paid to its councillors.

As a panel member, you would be required to learn about how the Council operates, assess evidence and legal requirements, and input your views on the levels of payment to its councillors.

The panel will be appointed for a period up to four years and will comprise a minimum of three members, it will be expected to meet on approximately three occasions per month during October to December 2023, usually during the working day.

Some meetings may take a full day commitment and you should also be willing to attend additional meetings outside of this timeframe to undertake an annual review of the scheme and to potentially consider other matters, as required.

Meetings will usually be held in person; however, alternative meeting methods utilising hybrid or fully virtual technology via Microsoft Teams may be possible.

You will be expected to ensure you have assessed the research and evidence provided to you ahead of the meetings and come prepared for debates.

One panel member will be elected as Chair, and will be required to present findings of the panel to meetings of West Suffolk Council.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and will be seeking to appoint a panel with diverse views and experiences. No previous experience of serving on a similar panel is required. You will be remunerated £100 per meeting for your work plus expenses.

Interviews are expected to take place on Thursday 7 September 2023 at West Suffolk House, Bury St Edmunds.
