DAI is seeking a
Project Climate Lead.

The position will be home based but expected to be in the BII offices in Victoria, London at least 2 days per week.

The Climate Lead will play a leading role in the conceptualization, design and delivery of various technical assistance/advisory mandates to support BII's climate strategy related to BII's financial services investments, including related to Paris alignment of lending portfolios, the recommendations of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures and climate financing.

Project Background:

British International Investment (BII) is the UK's development finance institution.

BII invest with the aim of solving the biggest global development challenges by investing patient, flexible capital to support private sector growth and innovation.

BII has over 70 years of experience successfully supporting the sustainable, long-term growth of businesses in Africa and Asia, and have recently expanded to invest in the Indo-Pacific and Caribbean.

BII invests to achieve impact and a financial return.

Over the past five years, BII have committed almost £7 billion of new investments, with net assets growing in value to approximately £7.5 billion.

BII are now invested in 1,200 businesses which directly employ over 900,000 workers and support many more.

Over the next five years, BII plan to grow further, and aim to commit around £9 billion of new investments over the period.

BII has a longstanding commitment to Financial Services (we have a portfolio of over $2bn invested in financial services across more than 150 investees which represents about one third of BII's total portfolio by value).


Over the last year BII has scaled-up its technical assistance activity to unlock impactful investments and promote sustained practice changes in financial services providers leading to improvements in the relevance, quality, affordability, and/or accessibility of finance services for underserved groups, green sectors, and/or high impact SMEs.

BII has launched FSG Plus, a flagship technical assistance facility for the financial service sector.

Contracted to DAI Global UK from July 2021 to June 2024, FSG Plus acts as an extension of BII Plus, BII's overall technical assistance facility.


FSG Plus enabling a systematic approach to the delivery of technical assistance, working with Financial Institutions to catalyze investment in low carbon, climate resilient projects and promote inclusive climate finance.


Summary of Assignment:


The FSG Plus Climate Lead will have overall responsibility for the successful delivery of a portfolio of climate advisory projects in the financial services sector.


This will include the following responsibilities:

  • Work hand in hand with various BII Financial Services investment teams (Equity, Debt, Financial Services Funds, Trade and Supply Chain Finance and Intermediated Credit) and Climate and ESG teams to identify and bring to life opportunities to provide technical assistance to current investees to drive BII's climate priorities; including related to Paris alignment of lending portfolios, the recommendations of the Taskforce on Climaterelated Financial Disclosures and climate financing.
  • Become a focal point for climate advisory expertise for the Financial Services Group. Proactively engage with key stakeholders, including the Climate Finance Working Group, to support the development of a pipeline of advisory projects, working with BII teams to design projects in line with BII's Climate strategy.
  • Drive the implementation of the FSG Plus climate related portfolio, including designing project proposals, facilitating internal alignment around advisory priorities, providing and quality assuring technical inputs, managing consultants to delivery high quality results and monitoring impact of projects.
  • Contribute to thinking about new ideas on Climate Finance, Paris alignment and TCFD to support our advisory strategy and the roll out of a structured climate focused advisory approach for FSG
  • Present findings and results of the projects at senior stakeholder presentations and webinars internally and externally.
  • Manage interactions and collaboration with external stakeholders related to the delivery of advisory projects under the climate portfolio, acting as a primary point of contact for project implementation and as a brokering link between the consultants, investees, and BII teams.
