Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust currently facilitates a volunteering programme across three hospital sites with a large number of volunteers supporting most of its departments and directorates.

The post holder will play a key role in the implementation and development of the voluntary services department internally and externally of NUH, possessing excellent organisational and influencing skills helping to enthuses individuals from our wider and less supported communities into volunteering within maternity, paediatrics and adult healthcare.

The post holder will ensure recruitment is timely, well supported and within compliance of Trust Policies and Procedures. The post holder will further support volunteers in existing areas, whilst developing new services aimed at enhancing patient's experience in hospitals, whilst complementing the role of paid staff

The post holder will support Trust initiatives internally and externally engaging our stakeholders and wider communities to expand participation including welcoming volunteers with special needs and those from traditionally under represented backgrounds.

Establish links within the community of underrepresented groups such as (BAME) Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic groups encouraging the involvement of individuals and groups volunteering activity within the Trust as appropriate to all departments

Participate in the recruitment process with the voluntary services team for potential volunteers.

Provide continuing support for volunteers and their development under the supervision of the voluntary services manager, contribute to the training of volunteers, develop and offer up-to-date appropriate information to the volunteers


Work in conjunction with the Voluntary Services team, (Human Resources Team) to provide mutual support, cover due to absence and maintain good working relationships with other voluntary and community organisations active within the Trust.

Coordinate services in respect of generic helpers, guest volunteers and honour contracts where appropriate

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Maintain close contact liaising with Ward Managers and Heads of Departments to ensure there is full co-operation and understanding between volunteers and staff

To respond promptly and appropriately to enquiries and requests for information and advice by correspondence or over the telephone.

Contribute to the evaluation of volunteer services provided and any research initiatives relating to the recruitment, selection, training, organisation, deployment, and retention of volunteers


Contribute to the development of reports and evaluation relating to Voluntary Services, providing the necessary detail and information in line with policy and procedures.

Problem solving by Demonstrating good organisational and communication skills, be able to problem solve ensuring solutions and resources are identified


To have appropriate knowledge and understanding of Trust policies and demonstrate a professional manner and confident approach at all times.

To take full responsibility for the completion and delivery of work to a high standard within the allocated timescales.

Essential criteria

  • Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's "We are here for you" behavioural standards NVQ Level 3 in Administration or equivalent knowledge gained from experience in an administration/coordinator role. Previous clerical experience/experience of office procedures. Experience of using Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook. Experience of using spread sheets/ Databases/PowerPoint. Able to communicate clearly
