Overview:

NHS Education for Scotland Board:

If you are looking for a rewarding and worthwhile opportunity, we would like to hear from you.

Applications are invited from a wide range of people who have an interest in public service and are committed to the NHS and social care in Scotland.

Please pass on details of these opportunities to anyone else you think may be interested.

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the Education, Training and Workforce Development Organisation for the NHS, and is also a provider for the care sector, in Scotland and helps to provide better patient care by providing educational solutions for workforce development.

NES is looking for four new members to join its Board.

As a non-executive member of the Board, you will be expected to play a central role in supporting the provision of the high quality education, training and lifelong learning of NHS and social care staff, which is vital to providing excellent health services.

You will be offered the training you need to make a strong contribution.

Skills/Experience Required:
NHS Scotland's values are at the heart of everything that this organisation does.

These values, as outlined in the Everyone Matters:

2020 Workforce Vision are:
- care and compassion;
- dignity and respect;
- openness, honesty and responsibility; and,
- quality and teamwork

These values guide the work of the Board in all that it does.

As a member of the Board, you will not only need to have the right skills, knowledge and experience for the role, but also be able to demonstrate behaviours aligned to these values.

In addition to the values above, applicants must be able to provide evidence of at least one of the priority criteria:

  • Achievement in a senior management role in, or relevant to, Social Work.
  • Achievement in a senior role, delivering social care services on behalf of a local authority or commissioned service (eg from private or voluntary sector)
  • Senior level experience of achieving major organisational impact through digital informed service delivery within a complex environment
  • Experience of, and commitment to, the Health and Care system in Scotland, and the ability to use this to enhance the work of NES and improve outcomes for the people of Scotland
  • Experience of working cooperatively and collaboratively
  • Ability to influence decision making and challenge constructively

Remuneration:
£9,030 per annum (non-pensionable) is payable. You will also receive reimbursement for all reasonable travel and subsistence costs and any reasonable dependant-carer expenses incurred whilst undertaking Board duties and for support required to help you carry out your duties effectively.

Period of Appointment:
The term of appointment will be for up to 4 years. When a term comes to an end, the skills the board requires will be reassessed.

If you satisfy the requirements of the new person specification at that time, and there is evidence of your effective performance, Scottish Ministers may consider reappointing you for a further term.

A non-executive member's total period of appointment will not exceed eight years.

Location:
Currently most Board/Committee meetings take place virtually.

This is likely to remain a feature in the future although Board meetings, which call for public access, may be held in Edinburgh.

In due course opportunities will be offered to new members to visit NES offices in Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness.

As we continue to live with Covid-19, currently meetings are held remotely using a virtual platform, Microsoft Teams, for which you will receive appropriate training and support.

Going forward, the expectation is that the work will be a blend of virtual and physical meetings and a physical presence will be required to be able to carry out the full range of Board activities.

Interviews:
Interviews will be held online via MS Teams on 14th, 16th, 17th & 20th March.
