ELBA is a leading social regeneration charity in east London. It facilitates corporate investment from the business sector into community programmes in east London, Islington and beyond. A registered charity, ELBA has over 30 years of experience in enablingsuccessful partnerships between business and the community.

In a typical year, ELBA helps place over 200 people into work in London through its award-winning Employment Works programme, delivers over 10,000 business volunteers into the community, and workswith over 300 local organisations in Islington and east London.

Our mission is to create possibilities to bring about positive change in London by channelling the wide-reaching resources, people power and influence of the private sector to address key areasof need.


The role

This post will sit within the employment and skills team, providing project management and resource development for the Enable Programme until October 2023.


Enable is a communication skills project that supports disadvantaged people in the local community to develop the communication skills needed to access and get ahead in work.

The project aims to support unemployed job seekers, early career starters (16-25years), and employed adults in entry level positions to improve their communication skills and ultimately, their chances of securing or advancing in a sustainable career.

The programme has a curriculum of over 70 workshop modules.

These interactive workshops are focused on communication skills defined by the Oracy Framework with progress measured across physical, linguistic, cognitive and social and emotional skills.

Workshopsare delivered by corporate volunteers both online and face to face.


Main duties

  • Identify and build relationships with a range of community partners, including charities, community groups that work with refugees and women survivors of domestic abuse, social enterprises, education institutions, faith groups etc in East London to builda caseload of beneficiaries looking for employment and training opportunities.
  • Adapt/update existing workshop materials and produce new materials to support ESOL speakers, young people with learning differences and women to support positive mental health and wellbeing.
  • Source, place and manage cohorts of corporate volunteers in line with business plan and project targets.
  • Train corporate volunteers to deliver communication skills workshops.
  • Work in collaboration with ELBA's employment team to support corporate volunteering activities which help the beneficiaries of East London community organisations to develop employability skills.
  • Identify, structure and recommend recruitment and training solutions, to meet the specific needs of customers and employers.
  • Develop relationships and effective partnerships with key stakeholders in the community including the local authority and community infrastructure support organisations to maximise the impact of ELBA's work.
  • Identify corporate volunteering opportunities that can facilitate largescale participations and/or collaboration for ELBA HSBC corporate partner.
  • Proactively market volunteering programmes to ELBA corporate partners.
  • Support wider employment & skills projects
  • Develop new employee volunteering initiatives which meet both the needs of the East London community and the expectations of HSBC.

Essential skills and experience

  • Experience of developing curriculum materials in education or for communication skills workshops, suitable for all abilities of learners.
  • Experience of working with external stakeholders in providing exceptional customer progression routes, working with employers, local authorities, health services or voluntary sector organisations.
  • Experience of facilitating learning sessions and training volunteer facilitators.
  • Highly organised with an ability to prioritise, work under pressure and deliver against set targets to agreed deadlines.
  • Effective time management skills and interpersonal skills including negotiation, persuasion, flexibility and problem solving.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to articulate messages clearly and concisely in an engaging style consistent with ELBA's brand.
  • Thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience of developing sustainable and effective partnerships with multiple stakeholders.
  • The ability to work across all levels of ELBA corporate partners, community partners and local stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within ELBA to develop and share best practice.
  • An understanding and passion of the principles of corporate community investment and employee volunteering.
  • Experience of working with and facilitating employee volunteering activities.
  • Experience of programme monitoring and evaluation.
  • A high level of IT literacy.
