About the Role


Preserving high-levels of confidence by consistently meeting or exceeding customer expectation in relation to contract delivery and value creation is paramount, equalled by the need to meet the needs of the business regarding safe and sustainable generation of revenue and profit.


At the heart of the supporting operating model are assured and repeatable methods of delivery, underpinned by key roles and responsibilities.


The Head of Delivery role is a Delivery Unit (DU) leadership role reporting directly into the DU Assistant Director, who in-turn reports to the Business Unit Director.


As Head of Delivery, you will directly contribute to the success of the Business and Delivery Unit, by supporting the Assistant Director to deliver the Unit's strategy, through robust portfolio management practices and processes, and by leading a team of delivery professionals to achieve sustained and high levels of delivery.


Primary Job Purpose

  • To provide strong and visible leadership across Delivery Unit
  • To enable successful execution of the BU strategy, underpinned by sustainable growth
  • To provide high levels of confidence in delivery and forecasting
  • To act as an effective change agent, driving and delivering change within the DU
  • To embed effective portfolio management practice and processes
  • To enable the BU leadership to confidently make informed and timely decisions based on accurate and insightful information
  • To enable the BU leadership to understand it's risks and opportunities and be able to make informed, riskbased decisions
  • To be Profession lead for the Product, Programme and Service Delivery community within your DU.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a consistently highlevel of delivery confidence across all projects visible to customers and visible within the Roke organisation, quickly identifying and mitigating all significant delivery risks and issues and minimising impact.
  • Providing consistently accurate financial forecasting for all projects and services with particular focus on revenue forecasting accuracy (monthly/quarterly/annually); forecasting must include a clear narrative of associated risks and opportunities.
  • Influencing monthly outcomes to achieve/exceed forecast by mitigating risks or exploiting opportunities to increase utilisation and improve productivity.
  • Ensuring the needs of the DU (for people, space, IT and Infrastructure, Security, MI and Tooling) have accurate representation within the Integrated Business Planning Process; risks and issues are to be prioritised and escalated based on impact (e.g., impacting safety or revenue).
  • Continually identifying and exploiting opportunities to increase profitability/margin and maximise staff utilisation.
  • Continually improving the DU's delivery performance focussing on efficiency and effectiveness, actively managing an uptodate, prioritised backlog of improvements.
  • Influences and supports the wider improvement agenda within the BU and across Roke.
  • Always fully complying with Roke's published policies and procedures.
  • Providing delivery assurance for the more complex programmes & projects. Undertake such other reasonable duties, commensurate with the job holder's experience and qualifications, as may be required for the smooth operation of the business.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

  • Appropriate P3M qualifications (MOP, MSP)
  • Relevant degree
  • MBA desired

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Proven P3M experience, ideally operating in a customer facing organisation
  • Demonstrable success at delivering programmes & projects, including undertaking delivery assurance activity
  • A strategic thinker, able to translate strategy into robust plans, leading and managing change to deliver desired performance targets
  • Extensive experience
