Are you looking for a number 1 finance role for a small but growing group of companies?


If so, Athwal Resourcing is recruiting exclusively for a newly created Financial Controller role to join an exceptional, fast-paced retail and distribution business in the Automotive sector based in Birmingham.

The small but dynamic Group of companies haveenjoyed rapid growth over the last few years, organically and via acquisition.

Over the past few years, their growth in the UK has meant the organisation needs an aspiring high-calibre Financial Controller to join the leadership team and work closely withthe Managing Director and Board.

As Head of Finance, you will be instrumental in ensuring the financial controls are in place to help drive the business forward and springboard the Group and its companies in the UK.

The Board is committed to continued growthand investment.


As Financial Controller and reporting to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for taking on the finance leadership role for the UK operations.

You will oversee the overall accounting functions for the UK operations, ensuring the management accounting,financial reporting, and robust financial controls and disciplines are in place within the Group of companies.

You will also be responsible for maintaining and improving the financial health of all the UK subsidiaries and future acquisitions.

As well as beinginstrumental in ensuring financial performance is in line with the strategic goals and that opportunities and risks are highlighted.

As Head of Finance, you will be an integral part of the senior leadership team to find solutions to critical issues and managethe relationship with external parties.

As Head of Finance, you will have wide-ranging responsibilities, including:


  • Finance Control Fully responsible for the control and reporting of the distribution and retail businesses and its trading companies, maintaining robust and timely financial reporting, reviewing monthly accounts and ensuring all day-to-dayaccounting is completed accurately;

Finance Performance Preparation of Board Reports and ensure full transparency to the Board on the UK businesses' financial performance and be fully responsible for the consolidated financial accounts for the UK Group. Together with effectivelycommunicating potential opportunities and risks promptly;

Business partner with the operational managers on commercial and financial matters and attend meetings to establish financial control and drive operational excellence in management reporting development and a KPI report dashboard to meetstrategic targets. As well as provide advice on how to increase profitability within the Group;

Operational Excellence Understanding the stock costs and expense drivers for the business; active participation in operational and commercial initiatives and assisting in the development of Stock systems;

Finance Plans Work closely with the Managing Director and assist in the formation of the company's financial strategy and the financial delivery of the strategic plan. Lead the annual budgeting process and forecasting; proposing actionplans to meet yearly financial objectives;

Cash flow Review of weekly cash-flows forecasts and reporting, including working capital management;

Liaison with External Authorities Managing and coordinating all the year-end processes and being the point of contact for the external auditors, tax authorities and bank relationships;

Staff Management and leadership for a small team of finance and support staff. Responsible for the recruitment, performance and development of all the financial accounting staff, ensuring personal development plans and training needs arerecognised;

Initiatives and Ad hoc projects Working with the Managing Director on strategic and commercial initiatives and financial control across the company.

  • Graduate calibre with accountancy qualification of ACCA, CIMA, ACA;
  • Experience in a senior financial management position within the Automotive sector;
  • Multisited expertise within the distribution or retail sector and ideally from Audit/accounts preparation;
  • Have demonstrable experience in growing businesses, organically as well as via acquisition;
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and integrated ERP systems;
  • Resultsfocused, strategic thinker and planner;
  • Continually challenges & influences key personnel to make balanced decisions for the benefit of the whole business;
  • Excellent management skills in managing a small finance team;
  • Keen to work autonomously and have the ability to think proactively;
  • Able to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
In return

Salary :
£55,000 - £65,000 pa
