Description

The Neonatal Technical Support Assistant complements the work of the NICU team by providing a safe and effective environment which contributes to the smooth and efficient running of NICU.


To carry out delegated tasks including stocking up and the cleaning, maintenance and management of specialised equipment, ensuring that equipment is available for use at all times.


Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Job Purpose:

Key Dimensions:


  • Undertakes nonclinical support tasks including the maintenance of a safe, clean and effective working environment within the Unit
  • To dismantle, clean and reassemble items of equipment
  • Restock and clean all clinical areas in accordance with infection control policy
  • Contributes to resource management
PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • To undertake training as required to facilitate safe and effective decontamination of equipment
  • Disinfect, sterilise and distribute equipment within the Neonatal Unit
  • Liaise with senior staff regarding patient's infection status
  • Test equipment and instruments to ascertain their condition for use
  • Maintain records and report defective and missing equipment
  • Ensure clinical area is appropriately stocked to meet service need
  • Ensure each cot space/ nursery is adequately stocked with clinical consumables and complies with infection control policies
  • Assist with the general tidiness of the Unit ensuring corridors are kept free from potential hazards to health
  • Clean and maintain stock of clinical procedure trolleys
  • Monitor stock control including appropriate storage and efficient use of resources
  • Maintain storage areas in accordance with infection control policies
  • Receive and log stores in accordance with Neonatal Unit procedures
  • Assist with housekeeping duties including washing of infant clothes, tidying of family and breast feeding room
  • Deliver/collect specimens/notes as requested
  • Prepare admission packs
  • Monitor fridge/freezer temperatures
  • Check expiry dates of formula and frozen expressed breast milk
  • Order Path Lab supplies
