At Watford Community Housing, we provide vital services that help people to live better lives. We're looking for an experienced Health and Safety Officer to join our Health and Safety team to help us provide an efficient and effective Health and Safety support to our internal and external customers.

What's the role?


You'll work effectively and proactively with colleagues in order to provide guidance and support to the management team and employees in the identification, assessment, control, and resolution of workplace risks and take an active role in leading the our Health and Safety forum Group.


In this role you will need to:

  • Act as the key point of contact for health and safety and build strong relationships with our stakeholders.
  • Provide support with SSiP accreditations and annual vetting of suppliers and contractors via construction line.
  • Working cross functionally to ensure ongoing implementation of the H&S management system.
  • Ensuring compliance with all legal requirements and group standards, following best practice methodology to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Carry out risk assessments and advise controls.
  • Prepare SSOW/SOP's.
  • Support in the development and roll out of internal health & safety procedures and strategies.
  • Keep up to date with current health & safety legislation and developments within the profession.
  • Record and investigate incidents, accidents, near misses and making recommendations and communicating findings where appropriate.
  • Liaise with the relevant authorities where required.
  • Complete regular inspections.
  • Carry out safety inductions for new starters.
  • Ensure internal/external audits are undertaken and compliance is met with our accreditations.
  • Ensure appropriate first aid and fire marshal coverage at our office, including arranging for the training of first aiders and fire marshals.

What are we looking for?
You will be customer-focused and have an excellent working knowledge of health and safety best practices and principles. If you have had experience working in the housing or construction sectors this would be a distinct advantage.

  • Essential:_
  • Demonstrated proficiency in delivery of technical services and familiarity with legislation and best practices.
  • Be able to competently use Microsoft packages such as excel and word
  • At least
    2 years' experience in Health and Safety
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Understand Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations.
- _ You will also need to maintain a satisfactory basic level DBS check._

  • Desirable:_
  • Experience of formulating and revising H&S policies and procedures
  • NEBOSH General certificate or the ability to work towards with in the 1_st_ year of employment.
  • First aid "train the trainer" course.
