Overall Objectives:


To work as a member of the operating theatre team, and to participate in the delivery of patient care while working alongside registered staff.

To provide a safe and clean environment for the patients during the peri-operative episode while maintaining the agreed standards.

To work towards upholding Trust Values

Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.


To transport conscious/ unconscious patients safely between all acute care areas; to and from any area of the hospital to the anaesthetic room, theatres or recovery room.

Ensure all areas within the Operating Department are clean and tidy and that adequate stock levels are maintained.


Undertake cleaning and tidying furniture and equipment, used in theatre and associated rooms as necessary, ensuring items which need repair are reported.


Cleaning all theatres, anaesthetic rooms, floors, walls, sluice area and any other area that requires cleaning on a daily basis or as required.

Removing clinical waste, linen and sharp bins within theatres, prepare for collection or disposal.

Cleaning and checking theatre patient trolley after use and daily. Ensure they have a fill oxygen cylinder and mask, and so are ready for use. Reporting any problems or breakages

Keeping changing rooms tidy and changing linen bags as needed, ensure scrub suites are replenished and stored appropriately
Participating in the "on call" rota as required by the theatre suit in which you work.

Maintain a stock of medical gas cylinders, returning empty cylinders to the store as agreed locally. To respond to medical gas alarms and change Nitrous Oxide, Oxygen and Medical Air cylinders as and when required. Ensure the store room is tidy

General:


  • To undertake any other duties that may be requested by your manager and which are commensurate with the grade, in order to facilitate the smooth running of the department.
  • To adhere to the guidelines, policies and standards of the Unit and Trust.
  • Will be required to take reasonable care for the Health and Safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work, and to ensure that statutory and departmental safety regulations are adhered to.
  • The post holder will take responsibility for their own learning and personal development, they will attend all statutory, mandatory training and participate in an orientation programme and appraisal review
  • Attend and participate in team meetings.
