NIPE Lead Midwife


We are looking for an individual who is experienced in newborn assessment and is skilled and methodical in their approach.

The postholder will be expected to work on our postnatal ward to work collaboratively with the ward/neonatal and screening teams to ensure a safe and efficient service.


The role will require the individual to take a lead on ensuring that all Newborn assessments are carried out to the same standard and that we are meeting all our targets for the National Screening programme.


The postholder will working as part of a team with the screening team, ward midwives, safeguarding and the neonatal teams to support patient flow and provide a high standard of clinical assessment for the newborn babies born in our department.

The postholder will be expected to carry out a holistic assessment of mother and baby, make appropriate referrals and record all findings on our NIPE Smart system.


The role will require the postholder to work collaboratively with the matron to ensure the smooth running of the service including the team rota, training and orientating and updates.


The postholder will be required to keep abreast of any changes to process or protocol and will be able to able to educate all necessary staff of these changes.


The postholder must be prepared to be part of the team supporting training and assessment for student and preceptorship midwives.

We are lucky to be able to work and provide care in our beautiful, purpose built maternity unit. We currently look after 4700 births per year and book over 5000 women for antenatal care.


Our service was rated 'Good' by CQC and our improvements over the last 18 months have seen us receiving praise from NHS Improvement.

A CCG Insight visit noted improvements in morale and culture, with staff reporting good support and a culture of learning rather than blame.

We are 100% compliant with Ockenden safety actions and have safety and excellent patient experience at the heart of the service that we deliver.

Our Bereavement Service received theRCM award for Bereavement carein 2018 and our Perinatal mental health team were awarded theNMC Excellence in Mental Health Award in 2021.

In 2021 we received the Capital Midwife Preceptorship Mark. Our maternity service now receives 5 star reviews on NHS choices


Our Trust has staff accommodation in North London and is situated within easy reach of London rail terminals and central London.

We are in Zone 4, making travel to work less expensive, as well as offering on-site parking.
