Autism Resource Assistant

Introduction


MAIN was established in 2002 to provide support and advice to parents and/or carers of autistic children in the Middlesbrough area.

We recognised the need for support within our local communities and have since expanded across Teesside and County Durham, offering a variety of accessible services for autistic children, young people, and adults.

We pride ourselves on holistic and person-centred support, maximising quality services alongside social value and investment within our communities.


The Role
Durham County Council have commissioned MAIN to provide an adult autism post diagnostic support service across County Durham.


Autism Resource Assistants have the opportunity to see the impact first hand they are having on a client's development and have the flexibility to direct and manage their own workload.

Autism Resource Assistants will be expected to follow an agreed assessment and support plan provided by the Service Coordinator.

They must plan, prepare, and deliver resources, interventions and strategies in order to support the individual to reach agreed targets and outcomes.


Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage an individual caseload of autistic adults and deliver practical advice and support to clients, actively listening throughout support.
  • Use the assessment of needs to provide personcentred care.
  • Create resources, provide intervention/strategies, signposting and plan support tailored to individual goals or needs to help clients achieve their objectives.
  • Undertaking and writing up documents which meet specified standards and timescales.
  • Accountable for maintaining accurate and up to date records and documentation regarding the work undertaken with clients, families, and professionals.
  • Actively engage with leadership, direction, management support and professional practice supervision.
  • Act appropriately in line with safeguarding policy.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work alongside other agencies in a positive and proactive manner to ensure all information received and understood.
  • Work in a range of settings, where required, for the needs of the individual.
  • Participate in training and development activities to update relevant skills/knowledge.
  • Attend staff meetings and actively participate in team working, networking, fundraising and awareness raising for the charity.
  • Actively promote the aims and values of MAIN and participate in quality assurance and service improvement systems and initiatives.

Person Specification

Qualification/Attainments

  • A good standard of Educated to degree education (at least C in level or equivalent in a
  • Qualified to at least Level 3 in a relevant area (e.g., advice and guidance)

Knowledge/Skills/ Experience

  • Successful experience knowledge of Autism of producing written risk assessment
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload confidence of speaking
  • Strong organisational and presenting in front skills of an audience
  • Good communicator, with excellent people skills, listening skills and the ability to quickly build a rapport
  • Positive attitude and role model to encourage the development of social skills, independence, and confidence
  • Commitment to equality of opportunity and respect for difference
  • Ability to cope with pressure and emotive or stressful situations and maintain high standards of professionalism
  • Understanding safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection

  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check
  • Willingness to work across both adults' and children's services if required
  • Commitment to completing relevant training
  • Understanding and ability to follow relevant Policies and Procedures
  • Ability to work constructively with stakeholders and partners, whilst promoting MAIN's vision and long term interests

Hours:
Part Time. Hours are to be worked flexibly to fit with the needs of the service.


Location:
Durham


Leave Entitlement:28 days per annum pro rata including bank holidays, pro rata.


Salary:
£11.20 per hour


Training:
A full induction process is carried
