The University of Sunderland has recently secured funding in partnership with the North of Tyne Combined Authority to develop a Digital Skills, Innovation and Leadership Project creating a Higher Education offer addressing higher level skills needs in and around Northumberland.


We have an exciting opportunity within MTC training for an experienced IT Technical Trainer to deliver the project and the role presents a brilliant opportunity to help the University establish a new delivery model for Higher Education in the North East.


The project will focus on specific skills gaps identified by employers in disciplines including Software and Programming; Networking Systems; Data Analysis; Digital Marketing; Digital Design; Customer Relationship Management Software; and Machine and Manufacturing Technology.


Specifically, offering:


  • Taster sessions for business and the community delivered online and in outreach venues to stimulate interest in digital skills.
  • Structured short courses (accredited and nonaccredited), to enable learners to build towards higher level qualifications. Provision will be flexible, with an emphasis on blended learning approaches to attract cohorts who would not traditionally access standard HE programmes.
  • A pilot digital leadership programme designed for and with Northumberland employers to drive digital innovation


As a Technical IT Trainer, you will have experience of delivering vendor specific programmes, as well as developing and delivering bespoke training to meet employer requirements.

The role requires you to hold a relevant teaching or training qualification, and substantial experience of training in the technical IT field.

MCT certification and assessor qualifications are desirable.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Represent Enterprise and Innovation to raise the external profile by establishing close working relationships with regional and national computer science networks and employers to enhance the student experience

  • Contribute to the enhancement of quality in teaching, development of
curricula and innovative teaching methods

  • Setting and marking student academic work, supervising student
placements and student research, and providing timely feedback to

students

  • Provision of pastoral and academic support to students at all levels
  • Design and deliver a range of complex technical IT and vendor specific

training solutions to meet project participant needs including:

  • CompTIA A+
  • CompTIA Network +
  • MD100 & MD101 Microsoft Windows
  • AZ900 Azure Fundamentals
  • AZ104 Azure Administrator
  • Power BI
  • Data analysis tools
  • Data modelling /algorithms
  • Data security
  • Make effective use of student initial assessment to plan and execute
training.

  • Train, motivate and support students on programme to achieve
qualifications within a variety of employer locations

  • Support, develop, implement and evaluate approved training materials,
promoting standardisation.

  • Maximise the use of elearning and use a variety of assessment methods to
ensure students have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in a

variety of ways.

  • Complete all funding and assessment documentation accurately and timely,
ensuring all materials are available on request for audit purposes.

  • Maintain employer involvement throughout the programme and encourage
all parties to be actively involved in the programme review process.

  • Maintain health & Safety good practices. Monitor records in respect of
employer's practices & premises.

  • To undertake other duties, commensurate with the grade of role, as
required by the Commercial Manager

  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all learners in your remit with particular
reference to those under 18 years and to vulnerable adults.


Special Circumstances:


  • Flexibility in relation to working arrangements is essential.
  • Occasional out of hours working may be required as the role holder may be
expected to work additional hours at peak times of the year.

  • Annual leave may be restricted to certain times of the year.
  • The role holder may be required to travel outside of the region.
  • The role holder must be independently mobile.

  • Design, plan, review and innovate in activities and materials that support
student learning and deliver either across a range of modules or within a

  • Use appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods.
  • Supervise student projects and, where appropriate, field trips and placements.
  • Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement.
  • Contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and material.
  • Set, mark and assess work and provide feedback to students.
  • Develop and implement personal research and reachout plans.
  • Conduct individual and/or collaborative research projects.
  • Maintain continuous professional development and professional practice.
