Description
To provide Clinical and Administrative Radiographic support.

To work as a Radiology Assistant to a high standard ensuring that lists run efficiently, and patients are ready for their examinations.

To support and assist Radiologists/Consultant Radiographers/Advanced Practitioners in the ultrasound room with their scan lists. To care for patients and their relatives/carers in the department and offer reassurance and support when required.

To ensure equipment is routinely cleaned and decontaminated as per guidelines before and after use. To communicate with patients any delays in lists that are likely to affect them.

To check patient demographics and ensure correct patient details are present on the ultrasound machine, RIS and PACS prior to a procedure.

To prepare clinical procedure trolleys.


To assist with biopsy and localisation procedures in the ultrasound room, ensuring a detailed knowledge of equipment required ie/ biopsy needles or guide wires.

To assist with the moving of ultrasound equipment if required. Ensure HSDU stock has been returned in a timely manner. To monitor stock of items and report to radiographer in charge if stock item is low.

To help with general duties such as using RIS, NBSS and PACS. Inform the patient how and when they will get their results if appropriate.

At the end of the list/session, ensure that the ultrasound room/clinical room is left tidy, clean and stocked and drugs have been locked away by a registered member of staff.

To report any accidents/incidents to a senior member of staff.


Have a flexible attitude to hours of work, and participate in work and duties such as extended days, bank holidays and weekends.

To participate in patient orientated admin/reception duties. To complete accurately and legibly all hand-written records. To organise changes of appointment.

To prepare paperwork for screening and symptomatic clinics. To send out appointment letters and information. To operate a variety of office equipment including photocopier. To download / import images from the mobile screening units into the PACS system.

To liaise with other team members, hospital departments and other hospitals to retrieve previous images when required. To assist in image checking and sorting. To work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Ad hoc driving duties to static and mobile sites across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

To answer telephone calls politely and efficiently and to refer enquiries on to more senior staff when appropriate

To participate in the Quality Assurance Programme within the department

To ensure the effective use of resources. To liaise with the radiographers on stock levels.


Professional:
To participate in appraisal and work to achieve agreed set objectives. To participate in departmental meetings. To attend training/development courses as appropriate and take every reasonable opportunity to maintain and improve knowledge and competence.

To participate in the training of other staff with regard to induction and orientation and to provide support to less experienced or new members of staff.

To behave in a professional manner, upholding the reputation of the Directorate and Trust


Health and safety:

To work at all times in a safe and responsible manner, ensuring that his/her own work practices comply with Unit and Directorate Policies on Health and Safety, COSSH, Security and Radiation Protection, and that any hazards are brought to the attention of the Radiographer in Charge.

To ensure that you have read, understood and signed the local radiation rules.

To ensure that any problems are brought to the attention of the Superintendent Radiographer / Radiographer in charge as promptly as possible.

To work in accordance with all Trust and Clinical Imaging policies


External Liaison:
To liaise with other disciplines in the Trust and to foster good communications within the department and the hospital


Other:
Any other Ad Hoc duties that may be required
