Work Location:
Based in Surbiton. Hybrid working is available from home or the Walthamstow and South Ealing offices.


Job Purpose


As a member of the Finance team, to assist in the production of timely and reliable monthly management accounts, together with such accounts, statistics and other information as are required by regulatory and statutory authorities and provide high quality financial information to Senior Managers and budget holders, whilst continuously looking for ways to improve business performance across the Association.

YMCA St Paul's Group (SPG) is the largest YMCA in Europe and one of the largest providers of supported housing in London and beyond, providing a safe place to stay for over 1,200 residents each night.

Duties & Responsibilities

Management Accounts/ Reporting

  • Demonstrate high quality, customer focused finance partnering service to the assigned business areas.
  • Provide insightful and intelligent analysis on the key drivers impacting business performance and suggesting solutions to drive improvements in financial performance. Investigate significant variances and details of any recurring trends.
  • Work with client groups on financial decision making, financial oversight of projects, including investment appraisal techniques and regular reporting of new and existing projects.
  • Preparation and distribution of reports and variance commentary within deadlines.
  • Ensure that all periodic adjustments are documented and processed correctly and promptly including overhead calculations.
  • Responsible for review and variance analysis of relevant areas of the balance sheet.
  • Manage statistical and statutory/regulatory returns.

Budgets and Reforecasts

  • Support the setup, configuration and inputs of budgeting/ forecasting cycles.
  • Advise and challenge budget holders through the budgeting and forecasting process, ensuring targets are realistic, in line with long term business plans and considering VFM throughout. Document changes and assumptions.
  • Presentation and distribution of budgets/ reports and update budgets in finance systems.

Fixed Asset

  • Lead Capital Panel meetings and capital purchases, take minutes of meetings.
  • Responsible for maintenance and reconciliation of Fixed Asset module.
  • Responsible for additions lists and providing Property Dept with up to date purchases information.
  • Develop reporting for development projects.
  • Ensure that agreed capital expenditure is correct, depreciation schedules are up to date and monthly depreciation calculations are correct and posted into SAP.
  • Responsible for Capital Grants schedule and postings in SAP.

General Duties

  • Participate in an active and constructive manner in team meetings and other events.
  • Ensure own behaviour reflects YMCA SPG's brand and approach to diversity and equal opportunities.
  • To cover other staff members in order to provide backup and assistance in case of sickness, holidays or when the department is busy.
  • Support the yearend audit process and the preparation of the statutory accounts.
  • Attend all relevant training and development programmes.
  • Attend all relevant business area, cross departmental and Corporate Office meetings as and when required.
  • Undertake all duties with regard to the Association's Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy and other policies and procedures adopted by the Association.
  • Respect the Christian ethos of the YMCA and uphold its values.
  • Undertake any other duties
