About The ODI
The Open Data Institute (ODI) is in an exciting period of growth.

Reporting to the CEO, the Head of People, is responsible for supporting and leading the operational people function within the ODI.


The ODI is a lively and fast-paced environment which is made up of a team of extremely dedicated staff and partners.

We are looking for someone to bring their experience working at a senior leadership level in a similar role.

You must be a professionally qualified individual (preferably in human resource management) with experience and capacity to support the wider operational function.


Role Description:


Reporting to the CEO, the Head of People is responsible for developing and maintaining the ODI's values and culture; helping us develop as an organisation, as teams and as people; and responsible for the HR function.


Key Responsibilities:


Organisational Development and Strategy:

Advise the CEO on ODI's organisational development strategy, aligning it with the mission and long-term sustainability goals- Provide reports on organisational development to the CEO and support the Remunerations & Nominations Committee- Foster sustainability by enhancing productivity, retention, diversity, and learning within the organisation- Support and hold the entire ODI team accountable for their work and conduct- Provide pastoral and professional development support to the ODI team


Human Resources:

Oversee end-to-end HR operations for approximately 60 team members, with the support of an In-house Recruiter/HR Coordinator- Offer guidance to the Executive Leadership Team on various people-related decisions- Prepare and circulate reports for Chairman's, Board, and Remuneration Committee meetings- Cultivate a collaborative and positive learning culture that motivates all team members to perform their best- Facilitate the refinement, development, and embedding of internal processes and policies that benefit both individuals and the organisation- Establish effective feedback mechanisms across the organisation- Explore new ways to celebrate and recognise successes- Ensure that policies and activities foster an open and inclusive culture


As the person responsible for the HR function within ODI, your responsibilities with support from the In-house Recruiter & HR Coordinator are to:
Identify areas for development within the team and collaborate with others to implement structured training and recruitment programs to address them- Assist in identifying and implementing strategies to enhance staff resilience, manage stress, mental health, and performance- Promote and embed good knowledge management practices throughout the organisation- Ensure staff plans align with business needs in terms of delivery and resourcing- Provide advice on organisational structure adjustments as the organisation evolves- Ensure compliance with employment laws and best practices, regularly updating policies to reflect current standards- Manage grievance and disciplinary procedures, driving them to resolution- Promote and support employee health and well-being, including mental health awareness- Supervise the maintenance of precise and current employee records- Oversee the HR Information System (IRIS HR & Xero), which involves the onboarding of new hires, upkeep of holiday records, and ensuring regular updates to employee details


Payroll and Finance Reporting:

Oversee that the monthly payroll documents for processing including new starters, leavers and changes are completed- Ensure the in-house recruiter/HR Coordinator liaises with the finance team regarding pension scheme enrollment and queries- Oversee the pay review process in line with the internal pay banding- Conduct internal pay banding and job mapping exercises as needed- Coordinate biennial external salary benchmarking exercises- Complete monthly reports and provide payroll information and oversight


Recruitment and Retention:

Oversee the entire recruitment processes, from job advertisement to job offer, including CV screening and conducting interviews- Ensuring your line report liaises with hiring managers to make selections- Manage job offers and handling any negotiations where needed- Coordinate with the in-house recruiter/HR Coordinator with recruitment agencies for senior and specialised roles when appropriate- Supervise the onboarding process for new employees- Manage the preparation of employment contracts and new starter documentation- Conduct exit interviews when needed with the In-house Recruiter/HR Coordinator and analyse the monthly turnover- Collaborate with the In-house Recruiter/HR Coordinator and managers to shape the organisation's culture and values to attract talent- Develop strategies to attract and retain team members- Maximis
