Job description
This Market Reports Commissioner role requires an individual who is open minded and intellectually curious.
The main responsibility foe this role is to manage authors through the process of publishing a report, while simultaneously developing their knowledgeof the key industries Smithers publish in.
The role
- To commission and project manage a set number of market reports through to final publication, delivering both projected financial performance and high editorial standards
- To manage an effective handover for sales and marketing campaigns, to ensure market reports meet revenue targets
- To contribute to the creation of successful reports on new topics and in new industries, through highquality research and effective networking with potential report buyers
- To produce highquality content to serve the reports and membership business areas, and other revenuegenerating editorial projects

- Searching for and assessing new authors
- Expanding personal network
- Managing your own title portfolio, there will be a set number of titles that are your responsibility to manage through to publication
- Research into our industries to develop new title ideas
- Speaking to clients for feedback and insight
- Speak to industry experts to validate what we think we know about industries
- Working with other departments, ie sales and marketing to launch campaigns for each report title
- Editing/proofing manuscripts
Key Accountabilities
- Commissioning, editing and publishing reports ontime to budget and to an acceptable quality
- Reading, proofreading and promptly responding to manuscript submissions
- Finding new authors who Smithers hasn't worked with before and describing/explaining the market report process to them to ascertain if they are interested and available to work with Smithers
- Managing an author through the report publishing process, from researching suitable authors, to contract negotiation, through to writing the report and ensuring key deliverables are submitted on time, and ensuring invoices, for both authors and externalfreelancers are processed
- Maintaining strong relationships with authors, providing regular updates the progress of their report
- Working closely with the production team to ensure the delivery of a report is timely
- Negotiating contracts with new authors and on boarding to the Smithers way
