About the Position:


We are looking for a Business Controls Specialist to help us understand, inventory, and assess Jane Street's risks, processes, controls, and governance structure.

You'll work with colleagues across the business on a variety of regular tasks and ad hoc projects, helping to:


  • Coordinate the timely completion of various enterprisewide risk and control assessments and audit preparedness exercises
  • Educate the business on risk and control framework best practices by creating and maintaining relevant documentation and conducting targeted workshops
  • Update and maintain Jane Street's central controls repository
  • Identify areas of unmitigated risk or potential improvement by documenting existing process flows and assessing for gaps and inefficiencies
  • Advise on the potential risk impacts of a proposed change to a control environment
  • Design audit test procedures to independently validate documented adherence to internal policy requirements
  • Enhance transparency of control performance by designing and implementing control metrics
  • Analyse residual risk against risk appetite, driven by internal requirements, regulatory requirements, and best practice standards


The right person for this role will enjoy working with people and documentation, and be able to explain processes, risks, and controls clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.

Your previous industry expertise will be valuable to the team as we collaborate with outside auditors and advisors.


About You:


  • 35 years of experience in a similar governance, risk, and controls role (e.g., a background in internal audit, systems and control audit, or operational risk)
  • Experienced with coordinating risk assessments, audit preparedness exercises, regulatory inquiries, and due diligence requests
  • Familiar with auditing processes and has participated in both internal and external audits; eager to improve those processess where possible
  • Motivated selfstarter who can handle competing priorities and work effectively in a challenging, fastpaced environment
  • Has excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Has a positive and collaborative attitude; willing to admit to and learn from mistakes
  • Clear, comprehensive, concise verbal and written communicator
  • Eager to engage with people across different disciplines; able to tailor information granularity to suit the needs of different audiences
  • Has proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or Jira
  • Fluency in English required
